www.instagram.com/reel/Da2wLyF... Nazi Plane Crashes Through House. A story from Ramsgate in the 1940s
NAZI PLANE CRASHES THROUGH HOUSE
Pilot Bales Out On Roof. After the pilot had bailed out, a German plane, believed to be a Focke-Wulf, crashed right through a boarding-house at Wellington Crescent, Ramsgate, on Saturday. The raider, shot down by ground defences, entered the boarding-house at the back
and so great was the impact that the engine and parts of the fuselage knocked down the front wall and finished up on the opposite side of the road. In the meantime the pilot, aged 23, drifted
down and landed on the roof of an outhouse at the rear of a bakery a few streets away. Within a
few moments he had been taken into custody and was driven away in a car under police
protection. ENGINE PERCHED ON RAILINGS As soon as the raider approached the town it
was greeted with a hail of fire from the ground.
“Shells seemed to be burst all round it,
” said an
eye-witness.
“The plane was so low that I was amazed to see the pilot climb out. I thought he
was too low for his parachute to open.
” After striking the roof of some garages and pulling down
part of the wall the raider plunged into the back wall of the boardinghouse, which fortunately
was unoccupied. The wings of the machine were shorn off and the engine knocked down the
front wall and remained perched on some railings on the opposite side of the road. Fire broke
out in part of the plane left behind in the house and spread to the house itself, In spite of danger
from exploding bullets, members of the N.F.S. were on the scene within a few seconds and the
fire was quickly extinguished. The roadway in front of the boarding house was littered with
cannon-gun shells, spent machinegun bullets and parts of the wrecked plane which was
shattered into thousands of pieces. Watching from a nearby road, War Reserve Coleman saw
the pilot disappear over the house tops, and rushing into an alley found him lying on the ground
in a semi-dazed condition. He was being helped out of his parachute by a number of civilians.

Post you from a different era This emerged recently on a fb group. It’s only the early 90’s but somehow feels so much older. I’m the littlest lass. Still am.
