Why is good enough an impossible goal only to the gods who claim me to be almost perfect?

Perfect.
Perfection, a losing game I thought I finally stopped playing.
I don't strive to be perfect anymore.
There is no perfect.
There is only enough.
Not to the gods, not to others.
To me.
I am enough.

My worth isn't determined by the gods casting down their good enoughs.

The robins are here, but you are not spring is here, but you are not the dogs keep bathing in the sun rolling around with the occassional glance my way
as if to say are you watching? Why do you look troubled?
I think back to the kiddie pool we read those books in. I wonder if you think of stuff like that or if you're just remembering the bad is there space for the good in your heart? I'm not entitled to know anymore.

All I feel right now is how l've allowed myself to ruin something good as if at my core that's all l've ever known, but there is good in me. I am good and I am bad. Being human is unfortunately morally neutral most of the time we're just a product of our
circumstances, and we can learn to take control of how we react to that but that doesn't change the past it doesn't make the future how we want it either you can't take everything back you can forgive you can move on, but it's a part of you whether it was rotten or sweet and sometimes both.

But when the birds sing it feels like being around you, the water is cool, you are smiling, I am gasping at the part you've already read.
In that moment there is some peace. In that moment there is some anchor of truth when my mind tries to make it all dark. And theres so many of those twinkling lights. Its like stargazing. Something bigger then myself, something I was lucky to witness, to be apart of if even for a short while.

Heartbreak isn't just heartbreak in a kitchen
Its boxes of pancake mix already opened, her favorite foods that you don't yet have the heart to throw away
Its looking at the freezer and going not today
Its a clean counter for the first time in nearly a year, slowly spreading over the course of a week because this time you want it to be right

Its dishes loaded directly into the dishwasher because there is so few
Its forgetting to close the fridge door overnight because you were cleaning it and lost motivation
Its chopsticks from the sushi place you went to in special moments
Its knowing your leftovers will be there tomorrow, every tomorrow and every tomorrow after that
Its not needing to budget for two, but finding you still think about it everytime anyway if only for a moment

Its missing the dances and serenades while the water boils
Heartbreak in a kitchen, is always there, but some days its easier, and some days you can't clean out the freezer, the fridge is open overnight, and the pancake mix haunts you.
But one day, you cook for yourself again.
Because you deserve to eat. And you've fought so hard to remember that throughout your life.
