(Unfortunately, Racehorse Retirement Home is not a real game. Yeah, I know. I’m devastated too.) #ttrpg

“Tip 4: …but send other information ahead of time!”

A nondescript hand holding a phone, showing an email titled ‘FAQ’. The email reads:

“Should I bring my own dice?
Yes, please! That would help.
Do I make a character ahead of time?
No, GMs will provide pregens.
Do I bring my own horse?
No, all games are theatre of the mind.”

“Tip 5: Create community for your GMs!”
The bear, frog and fox GMs from the previous comic chatting together. The frog is explaining something to the bear.
Frog: “Oh, you can totally play Racehorse Retirement Home without the tarot deck! It adds a lot, though.”
Fox: “I can lend you a deck!”

In the corner of the comic is a handwritten note: “Admittedly, this one is kind of a long-term project”.

Today on Floppy Cat Stack: how do you make an RPG events go well? What makes it logistically so tricky? We have some tips for anyone who wants to host a lil RPG event at game stores and beyond #ttrpg #comic

“Tip 1: Have multiple games running at once.”

Four cartoon animals (a bunny, a fox, a frog and a bear), are shown, labelled ‘GM1 + GM2 + GM3 + GM4 =‘

A simple illustration underneath shows the four animals playing a TTRPG together. The frog has just rolled badly, everyone else is enjoying it.

“You’ll always be able to run a game, no matter who else shows up!”

“Tip 2: Ask GMs to run games that they’re excited about”
The frog, in tears, is holding up a game to the bunny. The frog’s dialogue box says “You mean it? I don’t have to run D&D? I can run Racehorse Retirement Home??”. The bunny, confused, responds with ‘Uh. Yeah? Dude, who have you been playing with?”

“Tip 3: Don’t tell the players the games until they get there!”
A two-panel comic. First panel shows the bunny GM, looking apologetic, talking to a rat, who looks skeptical. The bunny says “Sorry, D&D is full. Racehorse Retirement Home still needs players, though!”. The rat says “Well, ok. I’ll try it. (Sounds weird tho).

“4 hours later”

The same bunny and rat. The rat is leaning over the table looking frantic, the bunny looks alarmed but pleased.

Rat: “Tell me where I can buy Racehorse Retirement Home! (I’m a changed man, bro.)”

Bunny: I’ll get you the Itch.io link!”

And this time. This time. I swear. I will drag myself away from boothing/demoing long enough to actually enjoy other people’s games. How do you guys manage to do both…?
