About Eliana: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Complex PTSD, Specific Learning Disabilities in Reading, Writing & Math
Eliana is an 18-year-old self-advocate living with FASD, ADHD, Complex PTSD, and specific learning disabilities in reading, written expression, and mathematics. Her journey has been shaped by resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to personal growth and helping others.
Eliana received special education services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) beginning at the end of third grade and continued to access supports through her graduation in 2026.
Despite significant challenges, Eliana graduated a semester early and earned an Academic Letter in recognition of her hard work, perseverance, and academic achievement.
As an FASD self-advocate, Eliana is passionate about educating others about FASD and the lived experience of people with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She believes awareness, acceptance, and appropriate support can empower individuals to thrive.
As she begins her next chapter, Eliana is excited to embrace new opportunities at the right developmental pace – one that honors her strengths, supports her well-being, and sets her up for long-term success.
“My disability may change the way I learn, but it does not define who I am or what I can contribute.”
I advocate for: Awareness, Understanding, Acceptance, Appropriate Support, Opportunities for All
Let’s Connect!
Advocate. Educator. Changemaker.
Living my truth. Inspiring change.
Together, we can build a world where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.

Porcupines Aren’t Puppies: Art for Communication & Adaptive Skills
Art offers a way for students to learn what their body stress signals mean and build adaptive coping skills based on strengths. It can help with aggressive reactions and impulse management, and many other symptoms experienced by individuals living with FASD.
We invite you to join us as we explore practical solutions and case study examples of how art may just be the missing piece your student needs to succeed.

A Neurobiological Approach to Supporting Individuals with FASD in Educational Settings
The impact of FASD is not solely brain or body, but an integrated experience of both with the nervous system as a primary conduit for how information is interpreted and presented. Pulling from research on how health impacts learning combined with insights from polyvagal theory and applied educational neuroscience, we will explore how the synthesis of these factors impacts a student’s ability to receive appropriate and effective educational care.

Are FASD-Informed interventions and approaches appropriate for all students?
This session will explore the benefits or harm of supporting any student as if they had FASD. We will consider how FASD-informed approaches and interventions are provided and how these may or may not benefit students who have not been diagnosed with FASD, as well as their potential application for those who do not have FASD.
We look forward to your perspective and feedback as we engage in thoughtful dialogue on this important topic.

Students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders are at high risk for involvement in the school-to-prison pipeline. School teams, in collaboration with families and communities, have the ability to significantly reduce this risk through thoughtful and timely interventions.
In this session we will discuss the many entry and exacerbation points to the pipeline – both on a systemic and individual level, how FASD impacts these, and employ interactive brainstorming to create a list of actionable solutions.

Creating Brain-Based Behavior Intervention Plans
Please join us!
Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) can be an important part of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Yet for many students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), their BIPs prove to be ineffective.
This session will explore how to create BIPs that utilize brain-based approaches to support students with behavioral challenges. Participants are welcome to bring copies of their student’s current BIP to discuss ways to shift the language to support an understanding of the student’s brain-based disability.

FASD-Informed interventions are well known to be brain-based interventions. When we expand this thinking to take into consideration the entire nervous system and how the nervous system responds to perceived threats, we open to a new way of understanding human behavior.
Please join us in exploring how reframing our understanding of human behavior via a nervous system lens can change the way we understand and support student interactions.

Back to School IEP Training! We invite you to join Kelly Rain Collin and Wayfinder Family Services on Wednesday 8/20 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm to learn Tips & Strategies for Navigating IEPs. We hope to see you there!
Wayfinder Family Services
A Training for Parents, Caregivers and Professionals Sponsored by Post Adoption Services
Tips & Strategies for Navigating IEPs Presented by Kelly Rain Collin, Ed.M. Wednesday, August 20, 2025 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
About the training
When a child is struggling in school, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) can provide critical support through customized services and accommodations. This training is designed to equip families with practical tools and strategies to confidently engage in the IEP process—especially when supporting children who are neurodivergent or whose challenges may not fit neatly into standard IEP eligibility categories. Join us in learning how to understand and navigate this process and become a strong advocate for your child’s unique needs. We will explore how to communicate effectively with schools, understand your legal rights, and ensure your child receives the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Do you have a question you would like addressed? We will be having a 30 minute Q & A at the end of the training. You can also send your questions ahead of time to Postadopt@wayfinderfamily.org!
About the speaker
Kelly Rain Collin, Ed.M. is an Educational Consultant, Advocate, and Child Mental Health Specialist with a passion for helping children realize their potential and access their strengths. By bridging the fields of child development, education and mental health, she is able to assist families, schools, and mental health professionals in understanding and creating supportive plans to enhance children’s developmental trajectory and address their learning and mental health needs at school. Kelly Rain has been actively supporting families with navigating the special education (IEP) system for over 20 years and approaches advocacy from a collaborative perspective that incorporates current neuroscientific understandings of learning and behavior.
