We’re developing national standards for urgent and unscheduled care. They will support NHS boards to identify gaps and areas for improvement. The final scope has been agreed by the development group and work to develop the standards is underway. Read the final scope at the link in the comments.

We’ve published a new national framework for evaluating the role of Surgical Care Practitioners (SCPs). It will support the continued gathering of evidence on the contribution of the SCP role. Services should use it to support evaluation of the SCP role in local settings. See link in comments.

340 babies and children received care at home through Scotland's neonatal and paediatric Hospital at Home services between November 2025 and April 2026. Our report highlights the impact for children and families. It also covers the continuing support for adults and older people. Link in comments.

We've published new advice on the use of new and existing health technologies. Our advice focuses on virtual ward technologies to support patients to go home sooner or avoid a hospital stay. We also looked at home-testing devices for diagnosing a type of sleep apnoea. Read more in the comments.

We’ve updated our clinical guideline on epilepsies in children and young people. Epilepsy is the most common serious neurological disorder in children. The guideline covers specific aspects of investigation and management of epilepsies. To find out more, click the link in the comments.

We’ve updated our clinical guideline on the pharmacological management of migraine. Migraine is the most common severe form of primary headache. However, it is often underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed and undertreated in primary and secondary care. To find out more, click the link in the comments.

Robert Peel has been appointed as the new Chair of the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC). Rob, a consultant nephrologist, based at the Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, takes over the three-year post from Professor Scott Muir.

We’ve published standards for the national diabetic eye screening programme which aims to reduce the incidence of vision loss through diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy has no symptoms in the early stages so screening is important to treat it early. Link in comments to read more.
