"Who hasn't heard bees need saving? 🐝 But bees aren't the only pollinators - moths, butterflies, beetles and hoverflies work just as hard. Picture only bees and wildflowers, and you're missing the bigger web. Think beyond pollinators and wildflowers 💚 #Biodiversity #Pollinators #Rewilding #Wildlife

Who knew beavers created lawns?! We've learnt a lot by watching the kits. They forage close to the water's edge, using their sharp teeth to 'mow' the grassy banks, creating open spaces where sunlight can filter down to the ground and hopefully encouraging different species to grow.

It doesn't have to be this way. When we give nature the chance... It starts solving problems we struggle to fix ourselves. Our beavers are slowing water, creating wetlands and keeping parts of Heal Somerset beautifully green through the dry spell. 🦫💧🌿

There's nothing plain about this 'plain pollen-moth'! One of our volunteers captured this beauty at Heal Somerset recently, and we have been marvelling at the flamboyant bronze sparkle of its wings and its furry crown. Moths are excellent pollinators and are a crucial part of a healthy ecosystem.

It's encouraging to see buds emerging among the willow grove planted around the beaver wetlands last year! This is a harbinger of spring and a heartwarming teaser of how the area might look if the willows continue to flourish - although their roots won't have fully implanted yet.

What a transformation 😍 Because we see the land so often, it's to forget the progress we've already made. Back in 2023 this narrow river ran through a homogenous field. Fast forward to autumn 2025 and a wetland exists! This is the power of rewilding - to foster diversity, excitement and hope 💚

From abundance to absence - and all the accompanying emotions. Last summer’s The Spark survey revealed something powerful: many adults feel sadness, regret and even anger about how much the wildlife they loved as children has declined. A powerful reminder of why restoring nature matters so urgently.

We've been amazed by the scale of our pigs' rootling! Large areas have transformed as soil and roots are exposed and natural hollows form and are filled by rainwater. If you've sponsored a Heal 3x3 patch, your square could look very different from when you last visited - come and see for yourself!

What started as just a few sticks across a stream in May has already grown into a thriving beaver wetland. Storing more water creates new habitats, attracts different species and keeps the land wet year-round. And by slowing the flow of water, the beavers have reduced the risk of flooding elsewhere.
