heres the thing- im not pushing that anyone should get tattoos if it is something that feels risky. however, i want to remind people that there ARE tattoos/tattooing practices/tattooers who actively dismantle and combat white supremacy culture in our profession to help ppl to feel safer.

the truth is that tattooing in the us, especially traditional and neotraditional styles, have white supremacist foundations and have been used to oppress and mark melanated people- including those who have been enslaved, namely Black, Indigenous, Asian, and other People of Color.

it is outrageous for anyone to say that tattoo art is solely for gang members, violent offenders, criminals, etc. as a melanated tattooer and 1.5 generation immigrant with many tattoos, my art is healing, gender and identity affirming, & empowering for clients of a variety of minoritized identities.
