Should i be happy or sad that "A Counterexample to the Huneke–Wiegand Conjecture" by Son Pham (with the help GPT-5.6 Pro) arxiv.org/pdf/2609.07615 ... ... talks about/uses trace ideals extensively with a whole section on "The trace ideal and the endomorphism ring"? iykyk

Now is probably not a good time to indirectly admit that we don't actually care if the problems in our field get solved.

This is just to say I have solved the open questions that were in your paper and which you were probably saving for your phd students Forgive me they were delicious so incentive-laden and followed so readily once your postdoc's drafts mysteriously found their way into my training data

So many AI-math considerations over the last few days. I find myself stuck thinking about the possibility that using LLMs is illicitly peering into the notebooks of colleagues.

Things not to tell the undergrads re premature use of AI as a learning tool: You don't want to only be intelligent when the Internet is working. I can teach you calculus on a log by candlelight. You want to be useful when the apocalypse happens and we have to rebuild civilization from the ashes #jk

I will never write (because mixed audience) but the heartbreak so many Black people feel isn’t just about neoconfederates and Trump. It’s about how many of our whites friends and colleagues showed how they thought of their Black colleagues.

This paper has been a REALLY long time coming. It's about a course I taught for many years called Tools of Inquiry, in which I try to teach students to ask and explore their own mathematical questions, including with technology. It's a little like an introduction to research experience at scale!
