One species often easily identified by its dark patagial mark is the Red-tailed Hawk. This mark doesn’t show up clearly in all Red-tailed Hawk morphs; however, it can be a helpful identifier for a Red-tailed Hawk at a distance in combination with other identification markers Photo by Don Owens
