wrote about December obsessions (and other wishes), also following the protocols for having a breakdown, turning all kinds of things into a 50 minute hour… thinking good thoughts for everyone but/and still hermit-ing www.fluentself.com/blog/persona...
a stone labyrinth in the high desert on a sunny winter day, next to a giant juniper tree, the sky is blue with gorgeous cloud streaks

homemade delicious breakfast of champions * in a great act of heroism, someone (it was me) made hummus & gluten free flour tortillas yesterday
two wooden bowls on a long wooden table: hummus with olive oil, sumac, cumin & zaatar, a fresh hot tortilla

went into the gila national forest yesterday for belated tashlich, the raging creek I usually go to was dry (monsoon season came very early this year but I was still surprised), but I found a new spot to love
light streams through a clearing in a forest of ponderosa pines, secluded & magicala winding small mountain creek full of rocks, greenery all around

forgot to share: couldn’t find my mom’s honey cake recipe, had a small breakdown, ended up making bourbon chai honey cake mini-muffins with a vanilla chai glaze, and a new New Years tradition was born
the tiniest most adorable muffin imaginable, absolutely drenched in glaze, sits on a square white plate on a wooden countertop

Okay, I rallied and made ginger cinnamon vanilla whipped honey (to use in baking honey cake this weekend), may it be a good sweet new year ❤️🍎🍯
kitchen tableau: sliced apples on a small wooden board, a cobalt blue bowl with homemade whipped honey, a pomegranate, a salt bowl that is also a pomegranate, decorative cow skull, happy new year

a favorite New Mexico thing is the way it can suddenly dump rain so hard & loud that I can’t hear the podcast I’m listening to but there will also somehow be blue sky in every direction
blue sky, white clouds, pouring rain in a pretty field of wildflowers, piñon & ponderosa in the distance

As is my solemn duty as a resident of New Mexico, each month I make a big batch of New Mexico red chile sauce 6 cups get frozen in 1 cup bags, 1 jar into the fridge to put on everything this week, and used the rest to make a giant pot of red chile rice
3 jars of deep red New Mexico red chile sauce on a wooden countertop in a cheery tiny kitchen, in the background: shallots & the book Slow Time by Waverly Fitzgerald
