Another Patreon update with all the BTS for episode 10 of #Denmates! We absolutely loved working on this episode because of the twins interacting in, well, very twin-like ways in this ep All of Denmates is free to read through the links in our bio, Patreon just has the bonus content! #webcomic

A really rough sketch of two people sitting side by side with blank speech bubbles between them. The person on the left appears to have cat ears.

A cleaner sketch of the same as previous. The person on the left is a cat girl squatting as she looks off-screen. The person on the right is a man with pointed ears who sits with his hands in a t-rex pose. He looks at her.

Same as previous, but now with colour and text in the bubbles. The catgirl is blonde with blue crystals in her skin. She wears white bandages on all limb except her tail and brown shorts with a tank top. The man is shirtless with dark coloured pants and fur boots. He has dark blue hair. The bubbles read as follows:
Siikya (catgirl): Yeah, probably... Well, there's lots of worlds that connect to this one, so we get a lot of different visitors. But... We've never heard of yours before.
Ulakei (man with pointed ears): And I've never heard of yours. What exactly are you anyway?

Same as previous, but with a finished background. A large stone being used as a table is in the foreground. The back is lush and green, appearing to be a forest of some kind.

I'm wayyy later posting this than I usually like to be, but the BTS for our #webcomic #Denmates episode 9 is up on Patreon! There's this funny cat girl that seems to be able to understand any language. What's up with that? #originalcharacter

A really rough thumbnail of a cat person with a blank speech bubble. She looks happy, tail flicking with interest. Behind her is a bird person with a grumpy face and hair that sticks right up.

Same as previous, but a a much cleaner sketch. The speech bubble is gone for now. The cat girl in the foreground seems to have crystals embedded on her arms and in the middle of her forehead.

The same as previous, but now with lineart and colours. The cat girl is smiling and speaking casually in a hunched over posture. She has bright blue eyes, the same colour as her crystals, and her hair is blonde. The bird person behind her looks like a child with red hair, wings, and clothes. Her eyes are bright green and she looks extremely uninterested. The speech bubble points to the cat girl and says "But never mind me! How did you even get here?"

The same as previous, but now with a complete background. They're in a grassy area with grey stones littered about.

BTS for episode 8 of #Denmates is out on Patreon! We both loved working on this episode, plenty goofy faces and some more characterization for the boys Denmates is also totally free to read on Tapas and Webtoon for anyone on those platforms! Be sure to check us out there #webcomic #originalcharacter

A rough sketch of a person which huge eyes hunching over a plate of food and sniffing.

The same as previous, but now a cleaned up sketch. The man has messy hair and tattoos on his face that resemble snowflakes. The food is buns, meat, and some nuts and berries.

The same as previous, but now with colour. The man has brown skin and blue hair with bright pink eyes. There are scars across his right cheek. The table for the plate of food has not been drawn, so he's just a floating torso with arms gripping nothing.

The same as previous, but now with the foreground and backgrounds finished. The table is actually a giant stone, and the background is a bright green forest.

BTS for episode 7 of our #webomic #Denmates is out now on Patreon! And, of course, the episodes are all free to read on Tapas and Webtoon as well

A rough sketch of a man touching his chin. There's a speech bubble that just says "Food?"

The same as before, but now a cleaned up sketch. The man has long hair in a braid over his shoulder and his mouth is slightly open. He wears a hoodie and his hands are covered with scars.

Same as before but now with colour and a proper speech bubble. He's albino, with fair skin, white hair, and red eyes. His clothes are shades of grey. The bubbe now says "Do you need anything? Food? Water?"

The same as before but now with a forest background.

A new episode of #Denmates is still on the way! We didn't mean for it to become so delayed, but life has a funny way of continuing to happen. We'll keep updating the Patreon with all the previous episodes and some new illustrations in the meantime

Behind the scenes for episode 6 of our #webcomic #Denmates is out on Patreon! Here's a single panel as an example 👀 If you wanna see more BTS stuff, exclusive NSFW drawings, and get access to early and uncut episodes, consider checking us out there

A rough sketch of a comic panel. Two men are in the foreground, one with short hair with his back turned and the other turned to face the "camera" and gesturing to follow. There are some giant wolves and rough sketches of other people chatting in the background. They seem to be in a forest.

Same as previous, but a much tidier sketch now. The man turned to gesture at the camera has a pleasant smile on his face.

Same as previous but now in colour. The two men are albino, and the one gesturing's hand is covered in scars. The giant wolves in the background have various, unnatural colours.

Same as previous, now with fully coloured backgrounds. The characters are in a clearing with green grass and part of a hill visible, surrounded by leafy trees.

Behind the scenes for #Denmates episode 4 is out on Patreon! The entire #webcomic so far is available for free on both Tapas and Webtoon for anyone interested

A rough thumbnail of a poorly drawn wolf with big baby eyes. Off to the upper left is a cutout of a person looking confused.

Same as before, but now a much more detailed sketch. The wolf is sniffing at what seems to be a tail with a pompom on it. The person in the cutout is a man with short hair carrying a bag.

Same as before but now in colour. The wolf is grey with yellow eyes and black spots. The man is brown-skinned with dark blue hair and pink eyes.

Same as before but now with backgrounds. It is a dirt path with some green grass and bushes to the left.

Behind the scenes for #Denmates episode 4 is out now! Ulakei is just such a fun character to draw, we had to highlight this panel. #webcomic #orignalcharacter

A very rough drawing of a man with big ears looking sad with t-rex hands. His ears are drooping.

Same as previous, but a higher quality sketch. His messy hair and fluffy pants are now visible as well.

Same as previous but now lined and coloured. There are dialogue bubbles that read as follows:
Ulakei: I don't... Know those words.
Tezu: Oooookay, uh.
Tezu: If you come with us, we might know someone who can understand your language.

Same as previous, but now with a completely finished background. There are white columns around the character and a green forest visible behind those.

The behind the scenes for Episode 2 of our #webcomic #Denmates is up on our Patreon! Here's a sneak peak at the process of making a single panel The entire episode is, of course, free to read on both Tapas and Webtoon

A very rough sketch of what looks like a person with long ears hunching in a tree branch.

The same pose as previous, but with a clean sketch now. The person is a man with unruly hair, no shirt, and furred pants. He looks anxious as his hand grips a loose stick.

The same as previous, but now with colour. The man has brown skin and blue hair.

The same as previous, but now with a finished background. He's in a large forest with green leaves all around him.

Haunted Stars Comics @hauntedstarscomics.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

My old reference for #Ulakei was pretty outdated, so I'm working on a new one as Nico finishes up the backgrounds for the next episode of #DENMATES! After Kei is finished up, we're planning on adding all the refs for the characters already seen up for free on our Patreon and Ko-Fi!

A sketch using blue lines on a white background. The person is masculine in appearance with long hair on one side and short on the other. He wears pants with a fur skirt around his waist and big fur boots. He stands awkwardly with a deadpan expression, arms raised to 90 degree angles and hands limp.

Happy #portfolioday everyone! We're two queer artists making a #webcomic together! Denmates is the story of some weird lizard guy falling into a new world, only to find an even weirder human. The two go on misadventures and get involved in some foul business with local fae

Two characters sit on a blacked out tree stump, with the stylized word "Denmates" on it. The character on the left is Ulakei, a dark-skinned person with blue and black clothing, blue and black hair, and pointed ears with many piercings. The one on the right is Rune, an albino human with long braided hair, grey and dark blue clothing, and leather jewelry. There's a forest background behind them.

There is a giant fox skull in a forest, the eye socket visible to the camera decked out with purple curtains. Behind those curtains, barely visible, are a pair of glowing red eyes.

Ulakei, shirtless and wearing fur-lined pants, is holding his hands in a t-rex position with a sad, almost babyish expression. There is dialogue here.
Ulakei: I don't... know those words.
Person off-screen: Ooooooookay, uh. If you come with us, we might know someone who can understand your language.

An upwards angle of a humanoid person with cat ears in her blonde hair, pointing upwards at the sky. This person is Siikya. The sun is visible, surrounded by clouds and trees. There is dialogue here.
Siikya: S... Sun...

Unfortunately, the next update of #DENMATES will be delayed. Partially due to circumstances the both of us are facing, and partially due to this pose

A red-clad child with bird wings and tail is laying on her stomach, looking at something yet to be drawn. The wings are folded up in a dark to draw way.
