discovered 3 miles from the town’s last known location on the side of an old hiking trail. This is what led us here. Inside the bag, other artifacts that were recovered include: •1 broken camcorder • 2 corrupted SD cards • 1 broken glass box with a dead insect inside (non-native species)- (2/3)

9) That glowing, meaty, wriggling mass. I want to look away from it so desperately, but I am unable to stop myself, coming closer & closer. I’m not sure when the thumping turned into a beckoning call, so weak and so frail, compelling me to help it.

8) The kitchen at first glance is orderly and tidy, almost too clean, filling me with a sense of unease. When I look to my left, however, I discover the opposite. The floor and far walls are covered in what I can only describe as branching “roots”, all of which lead that thing in the center.

7) The moth then slips between the doors as if it were made of paper. Dangerously curious, I carefully approach the kitchen, and slowly push open the doors, filling the room behind me with an ominous red glow. A wet thumping sound can now be heard, like that of a beating heart.

6) As I get up from my seat the slightest movement catches my eye, a small moth, no bigger than my palm flies nearby. I watch as it makes its way over to the soft glow from the kitchen. When did that light turn on? Was it like that when I came in?

5) Was I ever hungry? Surely, I must have been, but it seems like a distant memory these days. The window next to me has begun to fog, though it feels like the room has only grown colder, my breath almost clouding my vision now. I must keep moving to stay warm.

4) Gazing out upon the empty seats & tables, I find the choice is all mine. I pick a spot in the corner of the room, it’s where I feel safest. Only visible with ambient light, the table is set for 1, but I have lost my appetite.

3) Leaving behind lines, I make my way over to the forlorn diner, dimly illuminated by the neon sign above. My hand is greeted with frozen doors as I enter the dark, vacant dining room. The walls are bare of décor, only one is hung with what used to be a menu.

2) I knew that this wasn’t going to work out, it just sucks that I’m already dressed up. Another long moment of silence passes before exiting the phone booth. I try to close the door behind me, but the overgrowth is too strong.

Old favorite + a short story 🌿 1) “Hey, how long until you get here?” “Oh. You can’t come? I’ve been waiting all week.” “No, I understand... it’s all right.” “Okay. Bye.” I silently hang up the receiver of this overgrown booth. My heart weighs heavy with disappointment, and yet I am relieved.
