Had the pleasure and honor to light and record and co-moderate a lovely conversation with James and Roger Deakins. Came away with wonderful memories and a signed book. I even got to employ a bunch of my friends. Can’t ask for more than that. 🙏🏾 #teamdeakins

LA City Hall triptych of a Batman/Punisher mashup who enjoys yelling at the City Council. What a glorious time to be alive.

Taught some Local 80 Grips and Hollywood CPR students basic lighting and then had them try to recreate some frames from “Tár.” Not bad for their first time! Donnie and Nina were too kind and sat in for the students.

Thought I posted this yesterday: ≈’99/2000 and I was loading for two cameras on an underbudgeted behemoth of a Kid Rock music video. High speed all day and the mags we were using had razor sharp gears as they were brand new. Sliced both my thumbs loading as fast as I could go.

Had the pleasure of creating a spot for Hollywood CPR (nonprofit that helps marginalized communities get into Hollywood labor) with my friend Hubert Neal Jr. and the fam over at Local 80. It’s going to be amazing!

This is why I love my Grip homies- they’re having elections so they made booths out of some set walls and tables out of short c-stands and pancakes with baby pins. Always solving problems. 🤘🏾

Looking forward to working with @amandaseales.bsky.social again! Get tickets and come through, it’s so worth your time!

It’s nice that the city government recognizes the importance of keeping the film business going in Southern California. Honored to have helped out with Local 80.

So grateful to have been asked to help the Grip brethren at Local 80 with their training program. They even asked me to run my mouth about the program and the need for diversity in Hollywood and the importance of California state support for the industry.

Was stoked to teach a class at Local 80 on lighting today. I’m not a fan of speaking in front of crowds but we do what we must to be of service. My boss sent me this photo after wrap and wrote, “This is the leader I see.” Grateful to be out here teaching and lighting and keeping the flame burning.

Bought an APS-C 25mm lens from TTArtisan lenses out of Japan because it’s super inexpensive, small, and well made. Love it. Been shooting with it on a full format camera and loving the results. Here’s a pic I didn’t extract because I like it just the way it is. “planet vasquez”

Go see this ASAP. Super fun and really does capture a time and place. Made me miss Gilman Street and the East Bay something fierce. Also, lots of racists get absolutely wrecked.

“Can’t Swat A Swarm” by Immortal Nightbody. Shot and edited this all by myself in my own home. Working with less really makes you appreciate when you have more and keeps you humble.

Spent yesterday and today prepping then teaching a Light Theory class at Local 80 with @awphoto.bsky.social Was super grateful for the opportunity and the chance to help the Local 80 homies hone their skills. Hollywood has the deepest bench when it comes to crew.
