And the obligatory bookslap!

I am not allowed to shave mine off by order of my girlfriend. And looking through some old pictures I see why...

Met Darren Shan at Waterstones York today! Got to learn some interesting bits about the Cirque du Freak series such as that Harket was originally called Harvey! #reading #amreading #booksky 💙📚

Me being choked by Darren Shan at a Waterstones.

The title page of The Saga of Darren Shan, The Vampire's Assistant. Signed by Darren Shan and reads: To Harvey, Don't sit too cllse to the wolf man's cage at the Cirque du Freak!!!

Sniper King would have filled his boots nicely during that time. Unfortunately he's a busy man and wouldn't have been able to stick around I do see why Usopp would rank low for some. I love him but he can get so frustrating when he gets walked back.

In the words of my dad when 5 year old me asked if the sun was really going to explode: we'll all be dead by then anyway

I've hit the chimera ant arc of HunterxHunter. Finishing Greed Island knowing what comes next is... rough Tonight I'll probably watch some sitcoms for a break

Was determined to finish this today after finishing my writing goal for the month. This books reeks of 2014 but a very good laugh. Manages not to avoid just being shock value and doesn't take itself seriously at all #reading #amreading #booksky 💙📚

The Human Santapede by Adam Millard. The cover features a naked Santa with Mrs Claus, an elf, Rudolph, and more elves stitched together arse to face. Naughty bits are censored with Christmas tree emoji.

She's done so dirty. It might not have been so bad if she'd at least had a proper resolution to her arc. Even as a kid it bothered me that such a loose thread was left at the end

Wait is this account outing itself?

I totally intend to play my old games. Just like I intend to play new ones. Just doesn't always happen. Got my PS2 working on my TV a while back and have had some fun with Simpsons Hit and Run though

Harv @harvsbax.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Huh. Tbf if Oda did that he'd make it make sense. Man knows how to pretend he knew what he was doing all along and also make it hit you right in the feels for good measure

I think BlueSky has some great features and is way nicer than Twitter ever was in the time I used it. I feel more engaged and really enjoy my time here. I've found communities that never would have existed on Twitter. It's just a more pleasant place for some reason and I'm begging that not to change

A nice quick dip back into Tyrant Philosophers to tide me over until the next one releases. I didn't expect to get to know Angilly a bit more but I'm glad we got the chance #reading #amreading #booksky 💙📚 #fantasy #fantasyreaders

Lives of Bitter Rain by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Most of the cover is filled with a turquoise sea with ships and a sea serpent. Above are mountains, in the centre of which is a woman with dark hair with her back turned and sword pointed to the sky.

Mushroom Blues was a stupid good read. I can't wait to get to Murder Most Fungal. Great naming convention you've got there too

Incredible work as always

I actually had a really similar experience with a beta reader last year. Complained about the lack of worldbuilding when there was action. Complained about a lack of action and said modern fantasy readers don't care about worldbuilding and only want action...

That's high praise in my books. If some right-wing nutjobs call my writing woke I can die happy

I read this fully remembering the scene then realised I didn't remember it

I've blinked and somehow fallen a few volumes behind! I'll need to grab the rest and catch up! And yes I have read two in one day. What of it? #reading #amreading #booksky 💙📚 #manga

Blue Exorcist 31 by Kazue Kato. A white cover features blue text and a large man with grey hair and a glowing red arm. He's dressed in black with a dreamcatcher on his belt.

I remember when I saw the first volume of this at Worldcon two years ago I was immediately grabbed by the premise. And boy, this series has not disappointed. I'm a little sad it's over, but at least Barker has written plenty else to be read #reading #amreading #booksky 💙 📚 #fantasy #fantasyreaders

The Bone Ship's Wake by RJ Barker. The cover is yellowed and features a yellow serpentine sea dragon.

I've got to do some more planning for the next leg of my current book. Just cracked 90k words so time to reevaluate my original plan

Harv @harvsbax.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

I swore I'd uploaded my birthday #bookslap but apparently not. I'll be ordering more to join them too 💙📚

Harv @harvsbax.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

I realised I hadn't uploaded my recent #bookslap from my Waterstones treat last week 🙃

That photo of her on the yacht, with the cigar, quoting the A-Team standard of ‘I love it when a plan comes together’ should be shown to anyone who thinks she’s really contrite.

September is Bi Visibility Month, so perceiving me may be easier, as all bisexuals have disadvantage on stealth rolls until Halloween 1st.

BI REMINDER
💜Bisexual women are still bi even if they're dating men
🩷Bisexual men exist, and they're not "just gay"
💙Ace/Aro bisexuals, & Nonbinary
bisexuals exist
💜Sexual orientation is about attraction, not action
🩷Bisexuals dont need to have dated all the genders/gender identities they re attracted to - to know they're attracted to them

But what about the poor Americans??? The poor souls have no idea that they're not the default and that there are other countries out there 😢

I don't read a lot of cozy fantasy but maybe I should change that? I've been loving reading about Viv discovering a life outside of monster slaying Also this series has such nice covers and look amazing next to each other! #reading #amreading #booksky 💙📚 #fantasy #fantasyreaders #cozyfantasy

My last outline was 17k words. I'm at a stage with this book where I've gone off course and will be rewriting the plan later.

Throughout the year of my MA they stressed how important it was to be happy for one another if somebody else got published before us. And I am genuinely happier in myself for having that attitude. It's tough out there and I'm happy for those who can make it

My favourite mug is covered in various bits of useful information. The other mugs have every right to be sad about it and cry knowing they will never be as useful
