bookmark this post - the BBC will create their own social media platform - potentially over AT Proto - and it will be credibly neutal, accountable, democratic and awesome

From The Information today. We'll be seeing a lot more of this locking down of data. App-makers are reacting to the threat of a new, intelligent software environment in which apps aren't as important. It's not just the context wars, it's the app vs. environment wars.

Vibe Coders LDN was 🔥 20 lightning demos over healthy poké in Hoxton – games, LinkedIn hacks, workflow agents, “second brains” & more – all vibe-coded by founders, devs, dropouts, VCs. One legend built a game from scratch _during_ the show.

Q: Big vision? A: To break the old internet economic model of walled gardens, enshittification and platform fatigue. Self-sovereign data + AI is foundational for extraordinary user experiences.

Q: Tonk vs MCP - what’s different? A: MCP feeds context into LLMs. Tonk is a stack enabling LLM-driven apps with seamless local-first storage, offline capability & real-time sync.

Q: Isn't Tonk an applied cryptography startup? A: Tonk plans to use advanced cryptography (ZK, MCP) for decentralized data interoperability - peer-to-peer, no walled gardens.

What vibe coders already build with Tonk: • Personal CRMs • Financial dashboards • Productivity agents • AI summarizers & coaches • Custom note-sharing tools

Simple workflow using the CLI: 1. Worker pipes calendar & email into Store. 2. Build an agent to summarize your daily plan. 3. Need tasks? Add a tasks Worker. 4. Upgrade agent to auto-prioritize your day.

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 12/06/2025
Tonk uses three simple components: • Workers: Pull your data (email, calendar, tasks, APIs) • Store: Private, local-first data hub • Apps & Agents: Custom tools built over your data Easy, modular, flexible.

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 12/06/2025
Why build Tonk? Because creating personalized, data-driven tools usually means tedious data-pulling and backend pains (storage, sync, privacy). That friction kills fast experimentation.

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 12/06/2025
We’ve quietly built Tonk, an alpha-stage CLI tool that makes it simple to build custom dashboards, apps, and AI agents using your own data—minus the backend headaches. Quick intro 🧵👇

It's all well and good spinning up websites with Lovable or workflow automations with @cursor.com.web.brid.gy but data export, state management, server config, user security - these are all still a nightmare.

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 05/06/2025
3. The hardest bit is still integrating these vibe coding tools into your own personal data and sharing them with the world.
100
Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 05/06/2025
2. It's genuinely easier, more convenient and more fun to set up your own custom second brain - a patchwork of bespoke dashboards, visualisers, CRMs and interactive journals - than using commodity software produced by companies in Silicon Valley - to think more clearly and get more done.

1. A new and growing generation of people beyond the tech elite are enjoying a squishy, malleable relationship with their computer. Think "Bible translated from Latin into English" levels of social transformation.

Ok, so vibe coding is officially going from viral to mainstream. So many people have sent me this FT article today. I sit down every day with vibe coders - in startups, enterprise or just tinkering in their garage - here's what I notice:

the upshot is that we're entering a golden age for multi-hyphenate creatives - the individuals who want to surf across many worlds and skills, building bridges and generating insights uniquely available to the world-surfers

- then they get insights on the importance of consistent stroke contrast, the pitfalls of over-stylization, subtle spacing rules - that traditionally took years to pick up from mentors and peers

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
takes years of graft! but AI massively streamlines access to that tacit knowledge example: ambitious teenager prompts chatGPT with - "I'm designing my first typeface. What are common rookie mistakes that experienced font designers notice immediately?" -

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
the kind of tacit knoweldge that goes above-and-beyond books and Wikipedia and public courses. in the olden days gaining those insights meant moving to hubs like San Francisco or Paris, breaking in to insider events, navigating complex networks, finding mentors and building influential connections.

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
In the old days, picking up insider nuances, like decoding unspoken feedback when investors pass on you, understanding the daily role of an "assistant director", spotting subtle but crucial details in freelance contracts - depended on being physically and socially close to experienced people
100
Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
example: suppose you're an ambitious 17-year-old with dreams of launching a startup, directing your first short film, or crafting typefaces.

Harry Kingdon @harrykingdon.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
if you're ambitious but haven't grown up around, or don't have social access to, outstanding people in your chosen field, it's so tough to grasp the subtle "language" & unspoken rules of that community

reflection: an underrated, nonskeuomorphic use-case for AI is what I think of as "world-familiarisation" or "world navigation" "world" in the sense of a social world - the fashion world, the art world, the tech world, the politics world
