Anyway, read the article for a deeper breakdown. Or better yet, check out Fieldfare and see how multi-invoicing for freelancers should be. gofieldfare.com

On a $1000 invoice at today's exchange rates, I'd receive €784.39 from PayPal or €850.34 from @Wise. That's a €66 difference and a total gut punch. In the past, I've told clients I'd pay any wire or transfer fees if they swapped payment method. They've all said yes.

In the name of marketing, I'm going to be blogging a bit about getting paid internationally on Fieldfare. The big takeaway: Fire your clients who want to use PayPal. @Wise is much much better. gofieldfare.com/blog/wise-v... #buildinginpublic

Wise vs PayPal for Freelancers: Which Is Better in 2026?
PayPal extracts a hidden 3-4% margin on every USD invoice. Wise costs about 0.5%. For a freelancer earning $4K/month, that's €3,300 a year.

There's also a public completely free invoice generator that supports every major currency. This isn't so much a launch as a #buildinpublic pre-launch kind of thing. If you give it a try, please let me know what you think. gofieldfare.com/tools/invoi...

That's how I came to build Fieldfare. It's live now and free for 10 invoices per month and three clients. Pro plans remove the limits and are priced locally. $5 · €5 · £4 · ₹399 · R$19.90 · ₱249 — it's not just for Americans and Europeans. gofieldfare.com

By solving my problems, I was also solving a lot of other people's problems. The big accountancy software considers multi-currency a premium feature. It's packaged with team plans and all sorts of extras freelancers don't need.

It took around a week to build and will save me ~€1000 in QB and accountant fees this year. Well worth it! But it got me thinking. Multi-currency invoicing is terrible for global freelancers. If you work with US but live elsewhere, it's a mess.

This is a _really_ personal finance app. As well as invoicing and business expenses in 3 currencies, it tracks my credit cards, mortgage, savings, pension, and more. It's a QuickBooks replacement and a hell of a lot else.

I've been writing for US companies while living in Europe and Asia for almost 15 years. The whole time, invoicing and accounting has sucked. I get paid in $ but live (mostly) in €. So, inspired by @craig.mod, I built my own personal finance app. www.harryguinness.com/blog/quickb...

QuickBooks sucks — so I built something for me
I hate QuickBooks. It's expensive, awkward, and completely overkill for my writing business. Unfortunately for me, it's also the most usable and affordable multi-currency, multi-account invoicing tool so I've had to use it for the last four years. Then I read Craig Mod's blog about building his own custom finance tool in a week.
