📻 Radio has been one of the most important parts of my life for well over a decade - in fact, for more than half of my fewer than 25 years on this earth. To have that passion recognised at this level is something I’ll never forget.

If it wasn’t against Ofcom rules to not clearly distinguish between editorial and commercial content, I’d stick Steve’s Lava Chicken in an ad break - then wait for presenters and sales to ask A) who signed off on it and B) what the hell it’s supposed to be advertising.

One of the funniest things ever to happen during my time working in radio… After a presenter mistakenly imported SFX to the music database, “Single Hawk Screech by The Hollywood Edge Sound Effects Library” was recorded by Radiomonitor as our 9th most-played song of the week.

Watching the right tear themselves apart over Farage vs Lowe - including prominent talk show hosts & journalists who don’t know which bandwagon to jump on - is very entertaining. I’m no fan of either, but Lowe is the fringe element - a nobody to most outside the X-sphere. Choose your battles.

Leader of the Free World and his current VP puppet (who’ll be stitched up and probably fired not before long) hounding the representative of every innocent life and community being destroyed by an evil dictator right in front of the world’s media. What a dark, dark, day for human civilisation.

Hard to believe it’s been two years since #InsideOurAutisticMinds debuted on BBC Two. A lot has happened in that time but there has been no greater honour or privilege for me than to be Murray’s voice. You can still watch on iPlayer. Real, heartfelt, emotional, influential. © BBC Studios

📻 Happy #WorldRadioDay! ❤️ I never lose sight of the privilege it is to do what I do every day and have done (in one form or another) for more than a decade! 🗞️ Here’s my full interview with a local newspaper last year: www.linkedin.com/pulse/interv...

A quote in a local newspaper article from Harrison RB, Content Manager at Portsmouth’s Express FM.

“Humans. Connection. Friendship. It’s entertaining, it’s emotional; it makes you smile, it makes you sad; it makes you think, it makes you angry. Overall, radio makes you feel something. It also benefits from the fact it’s still very convenient for most people given it is often consumed in the background while doing other things, unlike other media that requires more from you.”

This gave me a good chuckle. Like when we advise radio presenters to speak normally and refrain from “in-talk” - same goes for railway staff! Anyway, sorry I’m late - another bloody track circuit failure.

A Facebook post which reads:

Asked the train station staff when the next train to Portsmouth was…

He went “Did you want the stopping train?”

Well yeah mate, bloody hard to get off if it doesn’t..

What percentage of UK Netflix / Disney+ viewers don’t already pay the licence fee? While the BBC is good value, is - not only upholding but expanding - the ancient funding model fair? With general taxation ruled out I don’t see how else existing ops can be afforded. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Enjoyed a brief encounter with a humble Scott Mills at NBH last year. Unsurprising to see the usual suspects at it today. You’re spoilt for choice - focus on what you DO like instead! I predict churn, if any, will be minimal and relative to the R2 general trend (afternoons remained fairly static).

Impressed with how iHeartMedia’s LA stations are responding to the devastating fires. Flagship presenters are sharing relatable, reassuring and heartwarming words, both on and off air, and they’ve teamed up with a local welfare charity which is appealing for donations of goods to be dropped off.

Bauer’s acquisition of Clear Channel is a clever strategic move and good for the industry as it continues to explore alternative revenue streams. The two main commercial groups both able to use OOH property to drive audience / subscriptions and agencies can buy streamlined radio + outdoor campaigns.

Tough to know there are radio colleagues anxious for what tomorrow will bring. The day you had been dreading. The career you worked so hard to achieve, the industry you adore and thrive within. Be kind to yourself and remember you are a great creative and / or communicator. This is a new beginning.
