Instead of training to run a marathon very slowly and getting really good at stained glass I spend my time creating shareholder value

GOD I have so much time for crafts and exercising when I'm off work, truly a bummer that I am not financially prepared to retire at 35

I gotta say the Sunday scaries are less bad now that I've got two weeks of PTO coming up at the end of the month

Well, it was sort of edible

I discovered halfway into making this recipe that hello fresh had neglected to include the tempura mix, so I am substituting...waffle mix. This may end in disaster

I frequently ask my dog "how'd you get so small?"

You're such a thoughtful and cool person. I'm glad you're finally getting some answers. I'm sorry it's been such a long journey.

Evidently the reason was: secret ear infection

Harrison Briner @harrisonb.bsky.social · 31/05/2026
Alas, I tried that before going to urgent care to no avail. Evidently I've got fluid in my inner ear or something and they gave me steroids and motion sickness medication. But thank you!

Me, literally yesterday: wow, I think my health is as good as it's been in several years! My body, about to wreck my weekend with persistent vertigo for no reason: lol. lmao

Rude of the weather to be briefly nice enough to tempt me to get back into jogging and then almost immediately get hot

It's beautiful! Looks so squishy, I love brioche. And excellent color choices!

That's impressive, both that it has never happened to you before and that it happened with a size 4! I've broken a lot of wooden and bamboo needles but I think they've all been 1s and 0s!

(I got this season's novavax back in November and had no side effects! But I'm traveling for work soon and it has been almost 5 months since the last one, so I got a moderna booster)

It's only been 8 hours since my COVID booster and I feel REAL WEIRD, this does not bode well.

Ooh I'm actually at the boring part of a circular yoked sweater right now. It looks like my bulky machine is maybe juuuuust wide enough to hang the whole thing on... I might have to try it out with some spare yarn and see how close I can get to my hand knitting gauge...
110
Harrison Briner @harrisonb.bsky.social · 09/03/2026
Also it can't really do much patterning (and no ribbing) in the round...I like to knit circular yoked fair isle sweaters and I will continue to hand knit those :) lots of seaming in my future as well!

Harrison Briner @harrisonb.bsky.social · 09/03/2026
I've not had much success knitting in the round on the ribber, although the last time I tried was before I figured out how to adjust it - you have to really dial in the tensions of the front and back bed so they match and the scales are different so lots of trial and error

That's so cool that you knit for charity! Where do you donate to?

I've heard good things about the lk-150! It's nice that you can use so many weights of yarn with a mid-gauge machine. I agree I would definitely miss the ribber though!

Harrison Briner @harrisonb.bsky.social · 09/03/2026
The makerspace has a standard gauge with a ribber! It's also an electronic, although it's electronics don't with work anymore. It took me awhile to get it to produce usable fabric with the ribber, it's much more sensitive to weight.

Look how pretty!!!!
A bulky metal flatbed knitting machine (Brother KH-270) with a ribber (KR-260) is set up on a white table. The tension mast, which looks like an antenna, is threaded with a cone of black yarn. The machine is cream (well, yellowed white), stainless steel and pink accented. The lid of the machine is in the background and is full of accessories.

And here comes the lack of restraint: an electronic bulky machine (Brother KH-270) with ribber!

Well, I made it almost 3 months between "learn to use makerspace knitting machine" and "buy my own knitting machine"

I've started a beta blocker (finally got to see a cardiologist about POTS) and my insurance actually approved dupixent the third go around for the hives!!!

It's a good thing that I understand that pharmacy benefits and medical benefits are often separate and the medical benefits provider will deny pharmaceutical requests because the benefits coordinator at my doctor's office benefits coordinator sure didn't seem to know this!!!

WOW uhc processed my appeal for my September OON claim which means...I am finally all caught up? Once the direct deposit goes through it will be the first time in 18 months that my insurance company has not owed me THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS???

Coordinating someone else's long distance travel to/from new haven is a logistical nightmare, there are many options of plane + train(s) and they are all kinda terrible

Harrison Briner @harrisonb.bsky.social · 10/01/2026
My new apartment has a beautiful gas stove with like an enamel interior and I HATE it because the heat goes everywhere and I get hives and it exacerbates the POTS and cooking is already hard enough

🫂 honestly it is very fucking annoying and I am frankly terrible at dealing with it. Even well intentioned questions of "have you tried x" get me on the defensive because.

I redid alllllll the sleeve cap, underarm, neckline, and shoulder shaping on the sweater I'm currently sewing together because I got ROW gauge but my stitch gauge was wildly off. I'll know how it works out once I finish sewing it up and I can tell how it fits! But that seems reasonable to me

I spent 10 minutes of a sync meeting explaining knitting machines to my coworkers today, surely a good use of all of our time

There are so many actual cheeses that are produced in this country, I don't understand why this abomination is called American cheese

Best thing about working with people from SF, Europe, Argentina, and India from the east coast is that I am the least likely to be asked to join a meeting at either my 7 am or my 8 pm. Worst thing: I very frequently have a giant block of meeting from like 11-2 so I have no time to eat lunch
