I bet I’m not. A lot of the things I knit look more complicated than they are. I like to keep it fairly simple because complicated patterns are not relaxing, and for me, relaxation is one of the most important things about knitting. 😁

Another one for #showmeyourknits cable week. I finished this last week. Simple knit with 3/4 sleeves, rolling sleeves and neckline and a 6-strand cable at the bottom. Yarn: merino with stellina by The Woolchemist Pattern: my own #knitting #knitsky
Red jumper with 3/4 sleeves and cables at the bottom instead of ribbing. Close up of the cable section.

Cables for #showmeyourknits this week. I finished this tank top recently, and I love wearing it. 😊 The close up shows the colour much more accurately. Yarn: Samhain by Untangled Yarns Pattern: my own #knitsky #knitting
Tank top in variegated purple and brown yarn with all over cables. Close up of the cables.

Depends on the look you want. Sometimes it’s useful to incorporate a different stitch at the side or at the top. On this one I used a couple of inches of moss stitch on the top of the back as this particular lace seemed really hard to line up. Generally, I just continue the normal stitch, though.

#showmeyourknits this week is on the needles & inspiration. This is the start of a jumper. The cable is the bottom band, and I picked up the stitches at the side to do the body. Yarn: The Woolchemist - Nutcracker (Melt the ICE fundraiser) - Merino with stellina Pattern: my own #knitting #knitsky
Bottom of a jumper in red Merino with stellina. The bottom band is a six-stranded cable.

#showmeyourknits this week is sweaters. I made this one about five years ago, but it‘s still one of my favourites to wear (wearing it just now, actually 😁) Yarn: Rightside Yarns Polwarth Pattern: my own #knitting #knitsky

My entry for this week’s #showmeyourknits is a merino shawl with lace pattern stripes. I made this a couple of years ago, but it’s still a staple in my wardrobe. Yarn: Dystopic Fibre Pattern: my own #knitting #knitsky

Grey theme for #showmeyourknits this week. I made this jumper a few years ago. I still wear it, but as it’s 100% alpaca it frequently needs de-fluffing. It’s fantastically warm, though. Yarn: hand-dyed alpaca Pattern: my own #knitsky #knitting
Wearing grey stocking stitch jumper with cabled owl in the bottom right corner. Close up of owl motif.

They stay with wear. When you wash you just have to make sure that the edge are rolled when drying. 😊

#showmeyourknits WIPs this week. My merino jumper is nearly done. The yarn is Proud as a Peacock by Untangled Yarns. I absolutely adore the colours in it. 🥰 It’s been such a relaxing freehand knit. Hoping to finish it this weekend. #knitting #knitsky

That’s interesting, thank you. 😊 While I don’t know about the organisms either, I don’t think it can be the pokiness. I’ve tried wool with a layer underneath (so no direct skin contact) and even that didn’t prevent hives, welts and weeping. Whatever the cause, I’m glad to have found a solution.

Harpy511 🇩🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺 @harpy511.bsky.social · 05/01/2026
That’s it - or rather, as I’ve been told, it’s the organisms that still live in it before the superwash treatment gets them. I’ve used yak before, and it’s beautiful to knit with, but, as you say, pricey. Alpaca is also okay, although it’s not my favourite.

#showmeyourknits My first superwash knit 5 years ago. I’m allergic to wool, but I liked the colour (Forgotten Banana) so much that I decided to risk it and found that I can use superwash. I know that it has its own issues, but I like it much better than a lot of the acrylics on offer. Info in ALT.
