I was working in the garden today and a Willie Wagtail boldly flew up and perched on my hand. He looked me up and down for a while before calmly flying off. I must have been stirring up small insects because he stayed close to me for the rest of the time I was working. I feel honoured.

I've read that Australian native bees are at risk from habitat loss and pressure from European honey bees. The article recommended putting "bee hotels" in your garden. So, I did. I'm pleased to report that a Resin Bee has taken residence and is filling egg tubes with pollen and edible leaf matter.

Dr David Livingstone "discovered" a waterfall complex known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders) in 1855 and promptly named it as Victoria Falls after the Queen. It is called Victoria Falls to this day. I think Zimbabwe should return it to it's original name.

Happy 77th Birthday, Alice Cooper. I went to this concert. Crowds of angry youth were outside the fence, throwing bottles to crash down amongst us like random shots from above. Huge storm clouds were building all night before torrential rain, just as the show finished. Peak High School days.

Hobart wins the Big Bash Final. This makes me happy for many reasons: 1. It's the first time Hobart has won the Final; 2. I always like seeing the smaller cities beat Sydney; and 3. I hate Dave Warner and love watching him lose. Go Hurricanes. If it couldn't be Scorchers, I'm glad it was you.
