We got the 9am train out of London yesterday- ok the peak flow is heading into the capital - but the train was still empty. Yes, it was quiet & comfortable vs busy & crowded. Surely if there's spare capacity then fares can be lowered to encourage use?

Was recently doorknocking for Community Speedwatch volunteers. Most houses either nice or very old. 90% of door-openers were aged 50+. Most suspicious, some decent fearful. The only couple my age were the only ones who offered me a drink.
