I saw an advert on ebay (China seller) for a Rockwell 6503 IC 40 pin. The 6503 has 28! I ordered one I searched the internet for the 338-6503 printed on the IC and found references to it being a R65C02. And indeed, the 6502 testers recognized it as working 65C02. Weird!

SYM-1 by Synertek was another KIM-1 competitor. Compatible enough to run KIM software, different enough to justify its own manual. The 6502 trainer market of the late '70s was surprisingly crowded.

What changed in the KIM-1 Revisions? The PCB underwent several changes around the logo area, takeover by Commodore . The big change was in the clock circuit between the first edition and Rev A. The first batch of KIM-1 suffered from the issue that the clock would not start. It was fixed in Rev A.
