People have a nasty tendency to confuse optimism with immaturity and pessimism with realism, which is a mistake the show has refused to make thus far with Charlie and i've seen it be the point of massive frustration. Personally i say "frustrate away!", because god is that mistake exhausting.

The reason i phrased it like that originally is that the broad assumptions these, and many other, adult pieces of media make just come down to expecting a familiarity with, and understanding of, the world around you and the people in it that takes time develop that an adult has likely had.
