My research asks a narrower version of the question, to consider how pity - specifically from nondisabled adults, and in particular parents - might inadvertently harm disabled children... Looking forward to reading!

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/06... An article about inclusive sports days that doesn't once mention a disabled child. Clickbait, @telegraph.co.uk, but deeply boring, not journalism, and certainly not anything that contributes to improving children's experience of the world, disabled or nondisabled

Very interested in these edge cases at the intersection of AI and human decision-making. More importantly, any paper with a title including a 'schm' prefix goes straight to the top of my reading pile ✅

Really interesting. My own research examines similar power asymmetries in the case of disabled children and nondisabled adults, both in family decision-making and in healthcare and education settings. Some striking structural parallels.

This is an important read, but with the context that the same headline could be written for most SEN services - substitute physical therapists, speech therapists, educational psychologists - the headline makes it sound like an isolated problem rather than one part of a systemic crisis

We think parents know best for their young children. But 'knowing best' requires the ability to imagine your child's experience. What happens when you've never lived it?

Epistemic injustice and loneliness in late-stage dementia
We have known for some time that loneliness can be both a trigger for and a consequence of mental health issues, but the COVID-19 pandemic and the necessity of lockdowns have brought home the centrality of social connections for our wellbeing. Well worth a read! This stuck with me: 'Dialogue—whether with a colleague or mentor, or, yes, even an AI—can be a corrective to that kind of tunnel vision' Absolutely this - and for students without mentors/colleagues available to work through ideas, AI could be a genuine leveller

Is it a free gingerbread man, or is it systemic ableism? I have 5 children & have taken them all for the occasional Pret hot chocolate. My wheelchair-using 6 year old has been given a free gingerbread man on at least 50% of his visits… the others are yet to be gifted any baked goods. 🤔

This whole PhD endeavour was made worthwhile this week when my 6 year old was asked by a consultant what his parents did - and he replied 'my mum is a philosopher... my dad...umm I don't know, he works in his room' 👌
