Happy 57th anniversary to "The Brady Bunch." Original poster for ABC-TV premiere on Sept. 26, 1969. Brady Bunch became watchword for blended families, at home & offices. "The Brady Bunch" endures through more reboots than any other TV series.

41st annual Farm Aid concert being held this weekend in Virginia Beach, VA. Farm Aid was organized by Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp & Neil Young in 1985, raising funds to support family farmers in the U.S.

During a visit to the U.S. Sept. 15, 1959, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev was talking to Vice President Richard Nixon. Khrushchev touched the tail fin of a Cadillac limousine. With innocence, Khrushchev asked, "What does this thing do?" It's about the tail fins & hood ornaments, design features.

On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists attacked America, putting planes into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. & Shanksville, PA. Music industry staged benefit concerts, motivational songs & donations to victims. From Hank Moore's book "Pop Music Legends," Chapter 31.

September 9 is international Teddy Bear Day. In 1902, US President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot bear cub while hunting. Cartoon published in Washington Post. Store owner inspired by cartoon, created a toy. He wrote the President, asking Mr. Roosevelt for the new toy to be called “Teddy Bear.”

The Beatles appeared in Houston, TX, Aug. 19, 1965. 21 Beatles singles reached #1 on Billboard charts, most of any band. "Hey, Jude" enjoyed longest run on the charts: 23 weeks. 25 Beatles albums reached #1 in the US. Worldwide album sales topped $600 million.

National Vinyl Record Day, Aug. 12. Vinyls introduced in 1948, LPs by Columbia & 45RPM singles by RCA Victor. Vinyls were prevailing medium for recordings for rest of 20th Century. Once CDs became the medium, vinyl records staged a comeback.

International Cat Day is August 8 every year. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Ancient Egyptians worshipped, revered, and spoiled their cats. They were seen as symbols of grace and poise, traits still associated with cats today.

69 years ago, rock n' roll went mainstream. On Aug. 5, 1957, ABC-TV began telecasting Dick Clark's "American Bandstand," live afternoons from Philadelphia, PA. Bandstand was a local Philly show since 1952, & Dick Clark took over as host in 1956. He was a seminal influence on music for 45 years.

Aug. 1, 1981: MTV signed on the air at 12:01 a.m. First song played: “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles. The second video was Pat Benatar's "You Better Run." MTV influenced prime-time TV, movies, youth fashions, commercials and the internet.

The name Arby's stands for R.B., representing the initials of the restaurant's founders, the Raffel brothers. Many thought it stood for Roast Beef. It is named for Leroy and Forrest Raffel.

Remembering the premiere of the “Batman” movie, July 30, 1966, at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX. Present were stars Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero, Lee Meriwether, Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin. The “Batman” movie was filmed between the first two seasons of the TV series.

July 6, 1971: Jazz legend Louis Armstrong died. He had 80 pop hits from 1926-1988, including “Hello Dolly,” “What a Wonderful World,” “St. Louis Blues,” “Mack the Knife.” He influenced thousands of singers & jazz musicians. His last recording was “The Night Before Christmas.”

June 29. 1888: The first musical recording made by Thomas Edison. Previous inventing the electric light bulb, Edison introduced the first outdoor electric Christmas light display to the world in 1880. Edison's colleague Edward Johnson created the first string of Christmas lights two years later.

Only two NBA franchise teams have continuously remained in their original founding cities and retained their original names since their inception: the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks. Both teams were established in 1946 as part of the original Basketball Association of America (BAA).

The name Knickerbockers originated from baggy trousers worn by Dutch settlers of New York City. The term was solidified in local lore by Washington Irving’s satire, "A History of New York." Knicks became a natural, everyday abbreviation, naming the 1960s rock group & the NBA winning basketball team.

The New York Knickerbockers, shortened & commonly referred to as the New York Knicks, are an American professional basketball team based in New York City, now in the NBA playoffs. The Knicks were the namesake of a 1966 rock group, with their hits "One Track Mind."

Remembering Muhammad Ali, on the 10th anniversary of his death. The world heavyweight boxing champion was presented Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. I met him 1968 in New York City. We received awards at a charity gala in Houston in 1974. Fourth photo, Ali with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

May 20, 1971: During a Los Angeles Dodgers-Chicago Cubs baseball game, one of the spectators was beat up by three men. He was Peter Cetera of the group Chicago. The 3 men didn't like the length of his hair and knocked out 4 teeth. Cetera required five hours of surgery afterwards.

Remembering Doris Day, 7 years since her death. She was a singer who became a major movie star. Unlike others, Doris continued to progress her recording career just as diligently as her film glory. Doris Kappelhoff chose her name from the song “Day By Day,” at the suggestion of Frank Sinatra.

Cinco de Mayo, May 5, celebrates Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at Battle of Puebla, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. A larger French force ultimately defeated the Mexican army at the Second Battle of Puebla and then occupied Mexico City.

May is Small Business Month. 98% of new business starts are small businesses. 45% of owners are children of small business owners. There are 27.5 million businesses in the U.S. 18,000 of those have 500+ employees, the rest small businesses. 83% of domestic companies have fewer than 20 employees.

Remembering Elvis Presley, whom I met on April 24 1958, at KTBC-KLBJ Radio, in Austin, TX. Elvis was doing his Army basic training at Fort Hood. I asked his thoughts about the young rock n’ roll music. Elvis said: “It won’t always be kids’ music. They won’t always be kids.”
