Hangar is on @tangled.org! I’ve got the repo syncing between GitHub ↔ Tangled, so you can follow along on either. Check it out at: hngr.to/tngl.

More fixes are out with Hangar v0.8.2! We’ve had some very diligent testers help out across a few distros today (thank you! 💙), turning up quite a few things—the app could hang, found more memory issues, refresh stalling, …etc. As always, snag the latest from hangar.blue or hngr.to/release. ✈️

v0.8.1 is out! Icons render properly on KDE now. This also fixes some serious memory issues with feed fetching, image cache, stalled downloads, and decoding images. Keep feedback rolling in and I’ll try getting fixes on the nightly build asap! Get the latest from hangar.blue or hngr.to/release. ✈️

Hangar now checks for new releases at launch and offers them in a toast, so this is the last release you'll have to find by hand. Grab 0.8.0 at hangar.blue or from hngr.to/release. This is still a technical preview with a lot more to come, so I need your feedback to keep improving.

Working on details: An offline banner that pauses polling, Try Again pages when a load fails, empty states everywhere, loading skeletons, and unread badges. The AppImage went from 40 MB to 4 MB (we stopped bundling GTK your desktop already has) We still have TONS of polish to add though.

Keyboard support: App shortcuts, a shortcuts window, and single-key actions on the focused post (J/K to move, L to like, R to reply). For screen reader users: alt text surfaced with ALT badges, announced toasts, focus that follows navigation, and a setting that requires alt text before posting.

The social layer: Follow and unfollow from profiles and people rows, browse follower lists, search for people. And moderation: mute, block, and report accounts or posts, from profile pages or straight from the feed.

Hangar for Bluesky @hangar.blue · 05/08/2026
Profiles for some love: Banners, whole-page scrolling, and a condensed action bar once the header scrolls away. Posts, Replies, Media, and Videos tabs on every profile. And you can finally edit yours in the app: name, bio, avatar, banner.

DMs work now: Open a thread, page through history, send messages. React with any emoji, or double click to drop a heart. Posts shared into a chat render as little cards that open the thread. Your messages sit right, theirs sit left.

Media playback: Videos and GIFs now play inside the app and you can post them now too. We’ve added in-feed playback and expanded play, with options to enable automatic media playback in settings.

It’s been a little quiet around here, life has been a bit busy. I have some exciting updates queued up and a Hangar release expected to land later this week. Stay tuned, I’ll have a few threads on the changes when they drop! ✈️

I do use AI as part of the workflow and I try to be transparent about that (see hangar.blue/ai also in the README). But I wouldn’t describe the project as vibe coded. Deliberate design, review, and iteration behind everything. It’s collaborative, not autonomous. I'm new to Linux with a lot to learn.

New nightly build! 🦉 The compose dialog just got another upgrade. You can thread up to 10 posts, add up to 4 images per post, add alt text to media, set media content warnings, generate link previews, choose the post language, and adjust interaction settings.

Hangar is my first native Linux app. I’m building it slowly, in the open—shipping nightly 🦉 builds and stable releases as I go. My goal is to learn the fundamentals, ship carefully, and build a Bluesky client that feels polished, meticulously crafted, highly accessible, and genuinely Linux.

Hangar, a native Bluesky client for Linux, is now available as a technical preview! It’s not feature complete, is rough around the edges, and is very much a work in progress. But if you’re curious, you can take a look 🐧 hangar.blue
