Our kitchen is finally mostly unpacked, and I was able to cook the last couple of days. Tonight’s celebration of having a full kitchen: t-bone, roasted okra and fresh gulf shrimp in lemon butter sauce. #bestfoodlife #nola

A blue plate is centered in the image. On it are roasted okra in the top right quarter. In the lower half rests a T-bone steak. The okra and steak are accompanied by fresh gulf shrimp is lemon butter sauce, in a blue glass bowl.

1/ We have made it to New Orleans! The last leg of the journey was grueling - we were exhausted, the dog hadn’t pooped in hours, and the cats were ready to be out of the car. But we are here, and we slept in our apartment last night on air mattresses. I would have slept the sleep of the dead,

I never thought my ink hoard would make me want to set fire to everything, but then I never imagined a cross-country move with 400+ bottles of ink. Note to self: Fountain pen inks are not Pokémon. I do not need to collect them all.

@morganmoreauwrites.bsky.social and I have an apartment in New Orleans! We just signed a lease and sent over the security deposit. We are looking at leaving WI on Friday, 07/30, and making the drive down in one long day on the road. We are still fundraising for the move: gofund.me/17bfffce3

Today’s daily page, pre-journaling. I’m using the same one as a couple of days ago - there’s still a page or two worth of Sapele in the converter, and I’m determined to empty a few pens before I add more inks to the rotation.

Today’s daily page from OP’s journal, post-decorating but pre-journaling. OP has gone with skeletons for a theme.

A fountain pen lies diagonally across the page.

Today’s daily page, pre-journaling. I’ll be using a hand-turned Highworth Slim fountain pen by Loft Pens with a 14k gold medium nib from Mr Cypress. Today’s ink is Golden Wish by Robert Oster. This is a deep, honey yellow ink with a lilac shimmer, and wonderful shading.

Today’s daily page from OP’s journal, post-decorating but pre-journaling. OP has gone with a yellow and black theme.

A rainbow striped fountain pen lays on top of the page.

With the upcoming move to NOLA, I decided it was time to start a new daily journal. One page per day, with the added limitation that I have to use my stationery hoard and decorate the page. It’s also an excuse to write more each day. We’re still raising funds for the move: gofund.me/0c4822778

I've confirmed that I can work remotely from Louisiana, so I'm good on the job front. We've got a fairly solid lead on an amazing apartment. We're starting to look at what the cost of moving our stuff will be. If you can donate or share our GoFundMe - THANK YOU! Every bit helps. We appreciate you!

Heyas all! @morganmoreauwrites.bsky.social got an awesome job offer that would require a move to New Orleans. The move would allow me to be closer to my mom, plus New Orleans is an amazing city. Unfortunately, moving is expensive so we've started a GoFundMe to try to offset our moving costs.

Why am I like this? Reading - in particular: Mercedes Lackey Dean Koontz Anne McCaffrey Ursula Le Guin L M Montgomery Also anything I could get my hands on. As a teen, I lived 20 minutes' walk from the library and a thrift store w/ a robust used book section with an average price of $0.79/book.

Alanis Morisette's Jagged Little Pill. My friends in high school bought it for me when I was 16. In retrospect, I think they might have been trying to make fun of me, because I was poorer and introverted, but I ended up really enjoying the album.

Had my post-surgery follow-up today, and got the all clear to return to normal activity. Got home, did dishes and the cat boxes. I had a little trouble pulling the starter cord on the lawn mower - @morganmoreauwrites.bsky.social helped me with that when she got home, so now the lawn is also done.

1/ New month, new deck, a new journal (pulled from the pandemic panic hoard), and an attempt at building a new habit. Hoping to do daily draws for myself. One card a day, to learn (or re-learn) each deck in my collection. Today, I opened The Southern Gothic Oracle by Stacey Williams-Ng.

1/ My purchases from my in-person visit to Papier Plume arrived about 20 minutes ago! I opted to have everything shipped home, since I hit the free shipping threshold and getting several bottles of ink home through the airport sounded like a not fun time.

1/ Was in LaGuardia airport for all of 15 minutes before we were able to start boarding for our flight to Madison. Didn’t see much, but I picked up a $20 sweatshirt, because my cardigan was just not enough on the last plane. Now that we’re on the last leg of the journey, I’m ready to be home.

Boosting, because this has become one of my favorite fantasy series! I cannot tell you how often I will read a series’s first book and not care to follow through on the rest of the books. Not so with The Warden. Aelis is wonderfully complex, and I am eager for more of her adventures!

1/ At Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and I am so sad to be flying out of this magnificent city. I have never felt so instantly at home, or so consistently excited to go and explore. The history, the people, the food, the culture… It all calls to me.

First walking tour of the trip conquered and then @morganmoreauwrites.bsky.social and I stumbled across and got dinner at The Vampire Cafe. Braised pork belly starter to share, and we both got the Gator Po’boys for main. Dinner was amazing, and we knocked something off our “NOLA Must Do” list 😁

1/ Broke out the Jinhao dupes of Lamy Safaris for this trip to NOLA - I didn’t want to bring my nicer fountain pens or my reading journal along, just because that kit gets heavy. Still, I had to write down my thoughts on the book I finished today.

1/ 50 days until carpal tunnel release surgery - on both wrists. It’s probably a little crazy to do both at once, but I’m so ready to have my hands back. I miss sewing, and I miss sleeping through the night and not waking up with tingling, pain and/or numbness.
