I'm a scientist, a mathematician, and a knitter. Meaning, I calculate exactly how many stitches I need and then spend five minutes checking I can still count. I basically conduct highly sophisticated yarn-based mathematical experiments. Ocassionally, a bonnet emerges. #mhhsbd

Sometimes colours, textures and materials just combine perfectly. I think this is what has happened here. I make a lot of bonnets but how do they differ? Some will sit higher on the jaw bone than others, some have different shaping in the back of the head, some come with ties, some are thicker than others making them great for winter. But ALL make you look fabulous! buff.ly/YFUIyfW #mhhsbd #handmade

I always start a new design with a swatch. This allows me to check the colours work well together or the design and the yarn are compatible or that my calculations work! I tend to start with my coloured pencils for colourwork and an idea before I even pick up the needles. #mhhsbd #UKMakers #handmade

Handknitted items are not the same as machine made. They take hours to knit each stitch by hand. But they're warmer and can last a lifetime due to the experience and skill of the maker. This makes them more expensive but definitely worth every penny. buff.ly/esCxNBd #mhhsbd #UKMakers #handmade

Different types of yarn produce different looks and feels. Cotton yarns tend to be heavier and stiffer than acrylic or wool yarns but they look great when you want to highlight stitches in a garment. These are all taken into account when I'm designing and knitting. #mhhsbd #UKMakers #handmade
