One of the rarest musical instruments in the world. One of only about 14 known to exist, and you can find it in our Library. The claviharp was invented by Johann Christian Dietz in the 19th century and combines qualities of both the harp and piano.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has brought Homer’s epic back into the spotlight. In our Courtyard, you’ll find an ancient Roman sarcophagus fragment depicting Odysseus sailing past the Sirens, one of the most famous scenes from The Odyssey.

Take the stairs down from our Library and you’ll find a 22-foot-long mural that illustrates a fictional naval battle unfolding across Gloucester Bay. Believed to be Eric Pape’s only surviving mural, it’s tucked inside the War Room area of the Lower Den, waiting for visitors who know where to look.

One of our most photographed spots: the arches. It’s breathtaking on its own. Sometimes, if you look closely, you’ll catch Schooner Lannon sailing through. But this view is only part of the experience, it’s wrapped in history, art, architecture, and the stories inside these walls.
