It's really hard to overstate how hugely favored conservatives were up until two months ago. Here's the graph of Canadian polling between March 2023 and March 2025. (Reminder: blue is conservative.) Those are months and months of 20+ point leads for Tories.

I have loads of old maps of the town and it occurred to me that the town is now a bit like the opening screen in SimCity - all the potential. So we thought we might have a go at twinning with them. First twinning between a real world town and a games-based town/city as far as I know…..

The town wants to talk about its merits/potential (well situated for tourism - the nearby coast is like Barbados on a cool day; loads of local artists ). One method to trying to get enterprise going is to ‘twin’ with another town. But, in most cases, this is a lot of effort, with little return.

Here goes: this is a stunning part of the world. Fingal is a small town, a big deal in the gold rush of the 1800s, now has a pop of 400, 4 cemeteries, no doctor. But it has a grid of about 90 miles of streets and all the municipal amenities, except they are almost all now closed…..
