I think I was too dumb for that book. There were characters that were compelling, and scenes that were moving or jarring or hilarious, but by the end I was mentally holding so many threads, and if they were supposed to add up to a bigger picture, I couldn't tell you what it was.

It was compelling, learning to isolate the hard-to-describe postures/states/feelings that made the bar go up. But the study asked whether getting someone's EEG reading into this frequency band would make them better at a certain kind of test-taking, and in the end it did not.

I am curious what kind of neurofeedback they used. I was once a GA in a lab that tested neurofeedback, and tried it myself. They put electrodes on my head, and a bar on a screen showed how close my EEG reading was to a certain frequency band. I could raise this bar by relaxing...
