At the end, this is a quirky show. But whatever people may think, I think it's good that the anime industry still has space for this kind of stuff getting made.

Is this somewhere on the shores of Lake Biwa?

Setting that aside, I wonder who had the idea for this reverse damsel in distress scenario.

Kihachi and Mizoe's problem at the start was believing Seiroku was indispensable to bring about the Age of Electricity, when what needed are things they themselves already have.

100

Hal @ what's next? @halm91.bsky.social · 37m

I suppose Seiroku hoped to achieved that by bringing together Kihachi's inventiveness and Mizoe's position that might eventually be able to direct Mizoe Firm's resources to be invested in mass adoption of electric devices.

Screenshot from episode 13 of Sparks of Tomorrow showing Seiroku telling Mizoe that he has faith in both Mizoe and Kihachi to bring about the Age of Electricity together.

Hal @ what's next? @halm91.bsky.social · 41m

I point out the technological leapfrogging thing 'cos they keep devising those advanced things, but that alone would not make the Age of Electricity happen. Things like mass production & establishment of electric grid would be needed for the appliances to be usable by the masses.

Sparks of Tomorrow is amusing in the way it puts these characters in a world where electric technology stalled and then they leapfrog decades or even a century of electric tech developments in just a matter of months, while still in 1907.
