My name is Halley. I've been an avid user of Blender for over a decade and a half. It has brought me many things. It has introduced me to incredible people, some of whom I'm lucky to call my closest friends. It has allowed me to express myself in ways I previously have not been able to. I have personally donated to the Development Fund myself in the past few years, and consider Blender to be one of the most important open-source projects out there, next to giants such as Linux, Python, and other well-known software/operating systems. I hold the Blender project close to my heart, and consider it a part of my life at this point.

I am incredibly disappointed to see you taking sponsorship money from a company that wishes to replace humans with artificial 'intelligence', displacing creators and destroying jobs in the creative sector. It goes against everything I personally stand for and, in my opinion, goes directly against the mission of Blender: To empower creators all over the world.

Until this sponsor is dropped, I will not be donating any further to the Development Fund, and will be encouraging others to do the same. Even though Anthropic may have no say over the development of Blender, it still represents an allowance of a major AI corporation to be involved in a heavily artist-driven and creative community, one which has faced some of the hardest challenges faces by generative AI. We see studios across the world laying off entire teams of artists, allowing their hand-crafted work, often made using Blender itself, to be replaced by low-quality AI generated sludge. This isn't even considering the environmental impact of generative AI on the world as a whole, which should be considered as well.

The sponsorship by Anthropic raises a multitude of ethical and moral quandaries that I simply cannot accept. I will continue to use Blender, as it is my primary source of income as an artist, but make no mistake: The moment any form of generative AI gets added into Blender,…
