Another note on SFX: The thing or action making the sound should be shown in the panel with the SFX! Like, if you have photography SFX in a panel ("POP" "FLASH"), ya gotta show that camera doing the thing. Either that, or show the source of the sound in a subsequent panel, like this.

Comics people! What's your preferred way to show whispering/quiet talking? I tend toward small text in a regular-sized balloon, with added italics on a case-by-case basis. But sometimes I'll mess with opacity.

It's wild that we still don't have a commonly accepted comic script format. Basically every script I get is different from the next, with varying levels of technical or layout issues. (But hey, we're all out here doing our best.) Keep your letterer happy with these tips from @blambot.bsky.social 🥰

Tips from comic book letterer Nate Piekos about how to prepare a script for lettering use. These include writing in sentence case and sending the script in Word or other text-based format.

First up, Jared K. Fletcher's work on EX MACHINA (2004) These drunken balloons are so effective with the squiggle tail and surrounding lil bubbles. And now I'm wondering who started the trend of small clustered bubbles denoting drunkenness (maybe they're supposed to represent burps?) 🤔
