All I want is a new planner where the month and weekly pages start on the same day. Hardcover. Spiral. Lined or dot grid for notes. Has a pen loop. No water recording, no gratitude/daily intention sections (my intention is to get through the day and I'm grateful if I do). Maybe that would fix me?!

For #SaturdaySky, I do believe that sunrise is making a point about taking control of the day (for all that it should be a lazy Saturday).
A bright silver sunrise with the sun peeking above the trees, with white clouds and blue sky above.

April Patreon ceramics
I'm really trying to catch up on things! These are the Patreon ceramics from April... stacked book planters. I already have ideas to make more of them for the shop (hopefully before Christmas, but we'll see) where the books will look more like leather-bound tomes, with gold leaf pages. Above is part one, making the stencils and glazing. Below is part two, stenciling the titles (and the finished objects at the end). Enjoy! Thanks, y'all!

New in the shop! Death, at a Snail's Pace (www.haldecraft.com/products/dea...). Death comes for us all, just sometimes, it's slow. And slimy.
A row of ten large snails, but instead of shells on their backs, they have skulls. They're on a gray brick walkway, and grass can be seen behind.

Honestly. How do I ever get any work done with this always going on around me? And how do I not sleep better than I do?! They're like this all night, and then for hours during the day. I wish I slept that much!

Lesley mugs
When I glazed these this time, I used the exact same colors I used the first time, but the mugs came out COMPLETELY different. Last time, a pastel. This time, SO BRIGHT. But my friend Lesley loved the color pink, so honestly I think she'd be happy with either one. I wonder what they'll look like next time, after these sell out?

What's better than a Calavera couple, staring at each other and smiling, holding a bouquet between them? That, on a skull shaped dish(www.haldecraft.com/products/sku...)! Use this for anything - a catch-all, a spot for wallet/keys, a plate of cookies, even a sandwich and a pile of chips. 🧵

Have I posted this already? Here, I mean? Y'all, I am LOSING MY MIND. I have a list of videos, and what stage I'm at on them, and where I've posted them, but every time I think I've got the list right, I confuse myself. Like, if I've checked off "posted on socials" do I mean just Facebook and Instagram, where I can post for both at the same time? Or do I also mean TikTok, that I forget about half the time? I also post to YouTube, but Widescreen, not Portrait, so that I can also write a post about them here on Snarkland, which will automagically send a link out to Mastodon, Threads, Bluesky, and even Tumblr (do people still use Tumblr?

While working on the computer I have Dracula 2000 on in the background, because I really just need background noise and while I know I've seen it before I don't remember a thing except it was bad. (a) It is REALLY bad. (b) How can it be this bad with such a great cast?!

Slow morning on this 9/25. So far all I've done is get out of bed and stumble to the kitchen. But! I did just pour myself a cup of ambition so maybe it's time to yawn and stretch and try to get ahead.

How is it September already? 2026 so far (part two)
This will be April, May, and June (if you missed January-March, you can read that here). As I said at the beginning of that post, WARNING: I’m going to get pretty raw, here, and say some things that I’d kept private for a while. I’m not interested in advice, I’m not interested in judgement, and I’m not interested in “well what you should have done was”. But first, holy hell, I can't believe I forgot to mention that in January (I know, everything that ever happened to anyone happened in my January), I paid off the mortgage for my property.

It's Works-in-Progress Wednesday, and I'm trying to finish up some replacements for some beauties that had some unluckiness in the kiln. Hopefully these'll be in my next shop update, the first Friday in October. Meanwhile, though, what are you working on? Projects at work? Projects at home? Do tell!

If we worked together 25 years ago and you post on FB about how persecuted you are because of how you vote, and tell people to unfriend you right then if they're not Trump supporters, I will have unfriended you before finishing your post. Wish we'd talked politics years ago to save us both time.

How is it September already? 2026 so far (part one)
Recently, I said some things over on Patreon when posting a video about some ceramics I wasn't particularly thrilled with, that made me think a post like this was in order. The TL;DR is that I can't believe I was all "I feel like nothing has happened this year" at the same time I was all "holy shit this year has been a shitshow." WARNING: I'm going to get pretty raw, here, and say some things that I'd kept private for a while. I'm not interested in advice, I'm not interested in judgement, and I'm not interested in "well what you should have done was".

Sunflower Mugs (the video edition)

Sunflower Mugs
Earlier this year, around April and May, I worked on a custom order for a friend. I'm really hoping the above slideshow above is showing up correctly... honestly from this end it doesn't look great, and I think I won't be able to figure it out and fix it until after I post this. Wheeeeee! Sigh. I guess that's what I get for trying to cut corners; I'm tired, cranky, have a hella bad sinus headache, and still need to finish mowing the lawn as soon as the riding mower's batteries finish recharging.

Last year, for the first time, I made those Christmas Trees that you put the multicolored lights into. Folks had asked me for them for years, so I tested the waters by making three; they sold out in minutes. So this year, ensuring I will sell NONE, I am making three each of four different styles!

Not really a #SaturdaySky picture, since it's of the ground, but… hey, I'm doing my best, here! My travels do not typically take me over areas like this… our flight from Atlanta to Anaheim took us over… Mars? I'm not sure where this is exactly, I don't usually spend a lot of time flying over Mars.

And here are the finished sunflower mugs, that made me so sad. Something happened in the firing - either little bits of the tan underglaze blew off, taking the glaze with it, or little bits of the glaze blew off, taking some underglaze with it. 🧵

You’re not Hodor, you don’t need to bar that gate
RANT AHEAD! If it's one thing I have zero patience for, it's a Gatekeeper. "You're holding your yarn wrong." "You shouldn't use Gmail for your work email." "You should always make your pottery logo stamps yourself, by hand." I'm not talking about unsolicited advice (which I also ignore, fyi). I don't mean "have you thought about this" and "you know what you should do" and other random implied criticisms that you might not have thought a thing through just because you didn't launch into a twenty minute soliloquy about how you came to what you're doing (side note: the people who jump to give you unsolicited advice are usually the same people who wouldn't listen to you tell them how you got to where you are with your thing in the first place).

For @SaturdaySky, an insane cloud from a sunset at my house last week. It's thunderstorm season, so we've been getting a lot of weirdly shaped clouds, but this one? With the sun hitting it and turning it orange? Can a cloud that's shooting off lightning and threatening to pour rain, also be on fire?

Maybe you feel a twinge when, at dinner, you bring out the butter on a small saucer. Or maybe on a cutting board that you'd rather be using for something else. Or maybe you're obsessed with Pumpkin Spice and want to have EVEN MORE PUMPKINS on your dinner table! No judgement here, just pumpkins!

Not only did I keep making the sunflower mug for my friend when I had misgivings about the clay… I actually made three of them. That way no matter which way he felt like holding a mug, he'd see a sunflower. Here they are, dried greenware, and the next step is to underglaze them.

The mug fooled me right here, and looked good while I was smoothing the bottom. Maybe if I'd kept it at that, kept it as a tumbler and didn't put a handle on it, I would have been happy…..? I think it's important to show off the things that go badly just as much as the things that go well.
