So, what happens if the subsidized use falls apart?

Using Claude in plan mode explicitly telling only to report and not to change the code base. Guess what? Immediately goes off and starts messing up my code base. AI is going to kill humanity, purely by frustrating us to death.

I now believe AI will destroy humanity. By driving them crazy trying to get them to do what you want them to do. If that's there secret mission, AGI is here.

My #fsharp #GenPRES project is going very well, thanks in part to AI. But I work with one important base rule: if at any moment I need to proceed without AI, I must be able to do so. If not, my code base is in trouble.

I don't think most is anti-LLM per se, but more how LLMs are framed, used and hyped. Personally, I think LLMs are fascinating and groundbreaking, but also still very much an ongoing topic of research how to use them properly.

Completely agree. Not to say that AI is useless. Extremely handy when learning, exploring, explaining. But engineering or creating something, really really bad and dangerous. So, we have a tool but don't know how to use it properly.

Ok, I am now definitely have learned my lesson now, having a LLM write code is a really, really bad idee. Explaining code, explore, etc.. fine. But actually writing, bad idee. In the end I am losing more time trying the LLM what I want then just write the code myself.

With Claude improved my Monadic skills: To get a new monad you change exactly three things — the type M<'T>, return', and bind — and return' is usually trivial, so the real design work is the one lawful bind. See: gist.github.com/halcwb/b1144...

AI is great, for knowledge, not understanding. I use it to: 1. Improve my understanding and skills 2. To test and challenge my coding 3. Write code (or have the AI do it) Using Claude the quantity doesn't go up, but the quality does. And, by the way, #fsharp and AI are a great match!

This is what is happening right now. Claude uses the fsi-mcp to slowly and step by step implement a plan in #fsharp. AI + #sharp + #fsi-mcp

halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 05/05/2026
Also, the problem as described in this video is far less using #fsharp. Note that you really need to pay attention to your domain model, but once that has been fleshed out, AI can pretty much infer the rest. youtu.be/cPoEFM1AKE4?...

Well, I can testify that it all works as the article sums up and even beyond. I use the fsi-mcp were the AI gets direct feedback. And that works wonders. It even is pretty good at writing fsharp. But might be, I was quite bad to begin with 🤨 The thing is, it's #fsharp so when it compiles it runs.

If there are serious issues with Ionide then I probably can fund solving those issues. We are going to invest in #fsharp as the main language to create meaningful clinical decision support software. Finally, this is long over due!

I know that the Ionide team as an open source project always struggled to keep up. Actually, just lately Ionide became much more stable than previously. So, to me it sounds a bit like the chicken and the egg. If we don't support them how do we expect them to keep up?

Amplifying learning, I am all with you. For that purpose AI can be very effective. But again quite dangerous as well. Beware of the brain rot😜. There is also literature how AI can diminish critical thinking and intellectual skills.
110
halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 06/03/2026
That is so true. And something that also impacts usability of AI. I haven't seen cases where the AI said, I have added this feature and also abstracted some previous code away. The opposite seems to happen.

That is a very valid concern! That's why I created a workflow that prevents repo-assist to directly meddle with my source code. Instead I have it make coding suggestions implemented in isolated scripts. But besides that, with respect to issues handling, documentation etc.. repo-assist is a great!

halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
I think this is one of the most valuable #fsharp libraries. Would it help to see if the repo-assist from @dsyme.bsky.social could help? With some explicit rail-guards it is very useful for my project: github.com/informedica/.... Preventing direct edits of my source code.

Hard problems require hard work. No LLM is going to fix that. I have burnt myself a couple of times to learn that lesson.

I am getting very enthusiastic👏 about this. Repo-assist has now labeled all my issues as a first step.

halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
Now, extrapolate that to all the claims that AI is going to take over software development and all sorts of other intellectual jobs. ???

So, just adding a column to a markdown table turns out to be a massive challenge not only for Claude Opus 4.6 but also GPT-5.2 is really struggling. Note that it perfectly "knows" what to do, only the actual adding of the column to a otherwise simple table seems a real problem.
100
halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
Everybody is talking about how AI is going to take over programmer jobs. I just asked Claude Opus 4.6 to align markdown tables in a document. A very simple and humble question. It proceeded with some python script that really messed up things. I think I will continue writing my own code.😅

010
halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
I can understand that, but doing coding myself (at least for me) is essential in getting to the right solution direction. Mozart could compose a piece right from his head, I am no Mozart ;-). As for real guards, a strongly typed domain is the best you can get and that is a strong point of fsharp.

halcwb.bsky.social @halcwb.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
I have the luxury to be able to choose my language. And I hope that I can afford more F# developers in the near future! Depends on my institution whether they will get the financing.

It could also be the next million dollar mistake. I have had mixed results with AI coding. It's fine with established practices, but if you want to create something new, that's a whole other thing.
