My Tmblr is actually my oldest account. It's where I first began posting my pictures online. Then I moved to Twitter, then here. Here, it hasn't been terribly fun. Not for a year at least. I really, really hate being limited by word limits. I can't make it work for me no matter what I do.

Love always ended in death. It is not out of jealousy or even love lost that forces this outcome, but a simple desire to satisfy the hunger that so plagues mortal-kind.

But they are not mortal. Not truly. And that is where that cult's and the Composer's understanding of love differed.

Azem can comprehend this absurd definition of love. Azem can feel it stirring within him as the experiment watches him with a beautiful curiosity—one which reflects the expression he himself likely wore when he first began wandering the star. The flowers nestled within its hair have taken on a pale-pink shade.

It loves him, too. Surely.

That is when Azem decides he will indeed slaughter his creation one day. He will commit the unspeakable act not out of malice, but simply the selfish desire for its light to become one with his own.

And the creature will let him.

How is that not love? How is that not beautiful

Characters I contemplated shipping with Etienne while I was going through MSQ years ago: Haurchefant 💀 YSAYLE 💀 Estinen? Better as friends. Zenos 💀 Yotsuyu..? 💀 Hermes. 💀 FINE. I will CREATE a love interest for him who CANNOT die. Thus, Vrai was born.

Participating in the writing challenge. I don't convey it often in pictures, but Eti is really weird. (Snippets are not in chronological order.)

His host's voice, suddenly very close, makes him drop the pocket notebook anyway. "You should not snoop."

Alphinaud squeaks, a flush settling high on his cheeks as he turns to face the au ra. "E-Etienne! I was just—well—"

"If you must snoop, you would do well to be discreet," Etienne interjects softly. His eyes alight, pupils thinning into twin slits, which for him is the equivalent of jumping up and down in childish glee. "Have you taken an interest in the art of subterfuge? Shall I train you?"

"I must apologize for my prying," Alphinaud says between sips. It tastes like the blend once provided to him at the Bokairo Inn. "It was wrong of me to take advantage of your gracious hospitality in such a way."

"It's fine. Would you like to become a shinobi?"

Alphinaud guffaws. "No! Besides, where in the world would I acquire a soul crystal? I imagine ninja are not in the habit of sharing their knowledge with just anyone."

"I'll find one." Etienne pauses, staring at a biscuit as though it holds all the answers to his troubles. "Oboro will assist me. Probably. Maybe."

I wish I could say it was love at first sight. It was not. At best, it was physical attraction at first sight. In the most shallow way. For a split second, Etienne thought... "Huh. This voidsent is not ugly." (This is just after Eti fought Arachne and Forgall, so the bar is in hell.)

There is a disconnect between "Etienne" and "Haruhisa" in his mind. Etienne is strong. The Warrior of Light. Infallible. Haruhisa is weak. Sentimental. Useless. So when Vrai calls him Haruhisa in private, things get intense.

Etienne's true name is Haruhisa (written as 春尚). It can be roughly translated to treasured Spring, or one who values Spring. This name was a gift from his mother, and it is his greatest treasure. His true name is also a VERY heavy subject, so only two living people know it: His aunt and Vrai.

One day I'll write something soft between these two.

The swordsman will meet his end in the darkness. Of that, Vrai is certain. He will lose the half-life afforded to him in a duel with some rabid god, a doomsday weapon, the very star itself. When that day comes — and it will, it must — Vrai will lament. Perhaps he will cry over his corpse, if he is still capable of such a thing, for Vrai has not wept since the day he lost his soul to the same darkness that will one day claim Etienne.

He will be sure of his demise. Free him from the agony of a butchered murder with his own hand if he must. It will be his final act of mercy before he inflicts his greatest cruelty. Vrai is a terribly selfish creature, beholden to the wickedness that so plagues his kind, and the swordsman is someone greater than all who came before.

He will pluck the last remnant of his soul, and every instinct will clamor within him to consume him right then and there, let the searing light that suffuses him corrode his body into ash and ozone and whatever is left of this rotten vessel. But Vrai will not listen to these base impulses. He will keep him, sequester the light of his aether within a shadow box until the end of existence.

It will be agony for Etienne. To have his soul splintered and grafted one last time — and it would be the last time, for only Vrai’s hands are allowed to impart this final act of cruelty upon him — all to stave off his own wretched loneliness.

Vrai should tell him these things. Deep down, he thinks the swordsman already knows what ending awaits them both. So perhaps nothing more needs to be said.

“Vrai,” Etienne calls to him in that peculiar, distant drawl of his. He loves the way his tongue curls around his childhood name. It is his true voice which envelops it, accented on account of the Echo lifting the veil of translation. “Why are you here."

A command. Not a question. Vrai despises being told what to do, but he lets this transgression pass. “Do not deprive me the pleasure of watching you work, swordsman.”

Etienne is so pretty, soft like moonlight and all the things it illuminates in its haze. But Vrai likes how he looks covered in battle-grime and sweat, like the ominous blood moon that sometimes shines over his star.

Red truly is his color.

If there is one thing about Etienne I want to be known, it's that Eti will never, ever, EVER tell a lie. He has hated liars since he was a child. He will hate liars until the day he dies.
