my #chatmail #deltachat app now does something notable that the official app doesn't: unified inbox (all your chats from all your profiles, in one list) two big things though: I have to merge the device/saved chats across accounts, and I also have to reorder the list in the app
Five conversations in a list: Hailey (2 minutes ago), Saved messages (10/14), Device messages (10/10), Saved messages (0 min ago), and Device messages (10 min ago).

MS Office's new app icons are. Well, they would look good, apart from the fact they completely miss the point of what they're supposed to symbolize. OneDrive should be puffy rather than flowy; it's a cloud. OneNote shouldn't chop the bottom of the first page; it's supposed to be a tabbed notebook. 🧵
An arrangement of Microsoft 365 apps; most of them have a new, glossier, rounder design with more gradients incorporated. They are also extremely abstract.

(turned off the timestamp display for now) This is really shaping up!
A screenshot from an Android emulator with a chat app. The currently selected chat is Device Messages, which has a theta icon. The top message is an image, showing an iPhone and an Android both running DeltaChat and connecting to each other, with the DeltaChat logo in the background. The next message is a long-winded default welcome message added by DeltaChat. The following two messages say "Hello world! It's 20251010". The shape of the bottom bubble indicates that there are more messages. Below these, there is a message that says "You cannot send messages to this chat" (because it is the device messages chat, where the app sends certain notifications to the user, like that welcome message).

What do we think about this? In particular, the timestamp text. (I might nudge it up a pixel or two.) (also yes I just noticed the timestamps are in reverse order, these are demo timestamps created off of the message IDs, where the "you joined" is 1, oops, so don't mind that)
A partial screenshot of a chat app. The text-box at the bottom says "Chat with Chat View Preview" and has a circled plus symbol on the left. From the bottom (most recent) up: a blue right-aligned bubble claiming to be from 4 minutes ago, stating "Hello world back!". A large right-aligned bubble claiming to be from 3 minutes ago looping "How about this long message?" a few times, next to a gray placeholder avatar, visually associated with the next message. A message bubble associated back with the previous message claiming to be from 2 minutes ago, which says "Hello world!"

Working on yet another chat app, this one's a chatmail (#deltachat) app. It is connected with a real chatmail account although I haven't set up contact-adding (securejoin?) stuff yet so it's not quite usable right now. But it's getting there, and it already looks quite nice.
An Android chat app with a series of text message bubbles and a chat box. This is in the "Saved messages" chat.

I spent the whole evening getting this to work. It's not perfect, but it's... It's something, alright
A screenshot of VSCodium, which is related to VS Code, with the Frosted Glass, Fluent UI Continued, and Custom CSS and JS Loader extensions enabled. Notably different from vanilla VS Code (or VS Codium): each panel now floats, is translucent, and is rounded; a background image is vaguely visible behind the entire editor; panel titles are bigger; the Activity Bar that's usually down the left side is now a tab-bar on top of the sidebar; and the status bar is now part of the editor. The Extensions page is shown on the right side to demonstrate that panel. The Terminal view has a static background because the XTerm canvas (the actual terminal) has one anyway, so I set the background of the entire panel to match.

I got curious so I loaded up Android XR in an emulator and took some screenshots. The emulator version is barebones with ancient apps, and I bet the launcher/system UI is gonna look way different for each vendor, as per the norm. Slightly more is in alt text.
The keyboard, which is literally Gboard but with rasterized glassy buttons. The system Quick Settings, which resembles Android's but probably prettier. WiFi and Bluetooth are independent tiles at the top, and a battery indicator sits above them. There's a panel below these which looks like it might support multiple pages, which has 8 labeled icon buttons, some toggled on, some toggled off, and one disabled split into 2 rows. Among these are some XR-specific entries: Move boundary, which shows a person standing in a possibly-floating giant hula-hoop, Environment, which shows a unique curved mountain and sun icon, Passthrough Window, which is represented by a computer window symbol with an eye inside, and Recenter, which shows a map pin inside four rounded corners. Below this panel is the brightness slider, and below that there are three buttons: power (which opens the power menu), settings (which opens settings), and the curvy mountain and sun symbol again for environment (which at present does nothing). The first page of the home menu. It shows the date and time, and WiFi and battery status icons. Below these is a row of four buttons: home (which hides all apps, I assume, but otherwise just closes this page and goes back to the environment), Recent Apps (which works just as it does on regular Android), Notifications, and Quick Settings. Three apps are pinned by default: Chrome, Google Play, and Settings. The next page isn't shown but it isn't interesting, it shows ancient AOSP apps in a simple grid, and one OpenXR sample app which just includes an RGB cube in a black void. The notifications screen. Seems built to be used with gaze controls, since the X button for a notification appears when hovering over it (controllers can swipe, but it's less comfortable to swipe away with your eyes). The Clear all button is at the top, above the Silent header. Other than that, it's roughly identical to the Android notifications screen, including collapsing notifications.

Bullet casings discovered by investigators had several inscriptions engraved on them, Cox said. The casing that had been fired read: “notices bulges OWO what’s this?”

Cox said there were three unfired casings:

One read, “hey fascist! catch!” with an up arrow symbol, right arrow symbol, and three down arrow symbols.

Another one read: “oh bella ciao bella ciao bella ciao ciao ciao,” Cox said.

The third fired casing read: “if you read this you are gay lmao.”

Fuck Newsom *and* Buttigieg. I feel genuinely betrayed by Buttigieg because he's one of us (gay) and he very willingly threw us under the bus. Reminds me of this classic:
A comic strip. The first panel shows two men shaking hands. One man in a red cap with big sunglasses on it, wearing a white polo and an American flag belt buckle says, “We did it! We finally outlawed all the trans people and drag queens! Thanks for your help!” The other, holding a rainbow-colored sign that says “Gays Against Drag Queens” and wearing a shirt labeled “LGB without the T,” replies, “Happy to be of service!” In the background, a few feminine people are shown handcuffed, heads down, marching out of frame.

The man with the sign asks, “So, who are we going after next?” The first man just stares at him silently with a fixed smile. He repeats, “I said who’s next?” Red cap man keeps smiling. He says nervously, “Who…” and the red cap man looks at him all the same.

Horizon Worlds (Meta's platform) didn't have legs on people's avatars for the longest time. Something every other metaverse/VR social platform had done for far longer.
A rendering of three avatars. Strictly defining Ecosystem Roles and, for an application, its Application Roles (such as feeds, and Tangled Knots) should also help in API documentation, to show i.e. in badge form which role an endpoint is related to. (Ideally the blue badge would link to the section/page about it.)
A screenshot of a Bluesky API documentation page, showing the description for com.atproto.repo.getRecord. It uses HTTP GET, shows a PDS badge and a Public badge, and then has a description: This endpoint is part of the atproto PDS repository management APIs. Requests usually require authentication (unlike the com.atproto.sync.* endpoints), and are made directly to the user's own PDS instance.

To learn more about calling atproto API endpoints like this one, see the API Hosts and Auth guide.

Get a single record from a repository. Does not require auth.

Finally sketched it out. The mixed use block might deserve to be bigger I'm not sure, this isn't to scale...
The top illustration is a land-use plan. The top of this plan shows an area for a playground or park. To its left and down the whole left side is a "Parking Deck (Residential)". At its bottom end, to its right, is a "Mixed-Use Block" with the same width as the playground or park area. The space between is "Green Space", marked to have "forest & meadow sections", an encircling path, and "walking paths thru?". Below both the mixed-use block and parking deck is "2 rows retail/office parking." Off to its left is a marking for "maybe ramp straight to top for RVs/etc?", and at the parking area's bottom are markings indicating entrances to the parking lot.

The bottom illustration, which points to the mixed-use block in the top one, depicts the building in 3D. The first floor has "outdoor access only" retail space at the short ends and a "Hallway to 1st fl. Residential, elevator/stairs access". There is a note suggesting "few family-sized units". The second floor has office space directly above the retail space, annotated with "separate hallway". The middle area is annotated "maybe studios?". The next floors are all residential space. The roof has a green area on it labeled Courtyard. The illustration is annotated "ideally 5 stories" (the illustration shows 4).

Here are some ideas. The lighthouse is on the right now because that's where it is geographically. The star is moved up, as if it's above the mountains. This is also not the final/official version of the lighthouse image. It'll be far more simplistic.
A flag design with two halves: the left side is a red field with a single white eight-point star. The right side is a blue field, with the Cape Hatteras lighthouse on top of a gold-yellow diamond shape, reminiscent of that on the Cape Lookout lighthouse.A very similar flag. It is now a primarily blue flag; it has a red stripe on the side, with a white eight-point star, and a golden-yellow diamond charged on the right with the Cape Hatteras lighthouse superimposed. Different now is there is a gap in the middle, and both of the graphical elements (the star, and the diamond containing the lighthouse) are smaller. The diamond is also slightly further from the edges.

This is a "discussion" in Blackboard, not an assignment. Everyone else's answers are shown too (well, there's only one other answer). This is in Intro to Mechatronics. Why am I expected to understand the ins and outs of jumpstarting a car? (Do not answer this for me btw)
This assignment is due 07:30am Tuesday
Proper Car Jump Start

This is based on "class discussion item 2.1".

Draw an equivalent circuit and list the sequence of steps to connect jumper cables properly between two car batteries when trying to jump-start a car with a run-down battery. Be sure to label both the positive and negative terminals on each battery and the red and black cables of the jumper.

It is recommended that the last connection you make should be between the black jumper cable and the run-down car; and instead of connecting it to the negative terminal of the battery, you should connect it to the frame of the car at a point away from the battery. What is the rationale for this advice? Does it matter in what order the connections are removed after you have started the car?

These are "real" posts. Look at my repo (this account) in something like pdsls.dev or ATProto Browser. Anyway, the date's being a bit weird, and I think it's lex-cli's fault for being overbearingly strict. But in any case, that's a "real" category, and those are actual public posts.
A website called Bulletin Board. The huge white header bar shows the site title, a subtitle next to it that says "In: The category with the image", and on the other side, sign up and log in buttons.

There are two posts shown. The first one is titled "The title of the post." The avatar is missing. The placeholder user "Not implemented" with the handle "@handle.invalid" is showing. The posts were both supposedly published on 0001-01-00 at 00:00:00 UTC. The first post, below the title and date, says, "This is an ancient post that doesn't belong to any forum!" The second post doesn't have a title. Below the publishing date, it says, "This is a heading. This defaults to an unstyled paragraph." and has a link to a Bluesky post I wrote.

I made these changes myself, and I think I actually like it better. The Categories header is gone, the categories are divided with a border, the section headers look like I imagined them (the small text and gray background), and the rounding now goes by section instead of by each category. 🧵
