“Diverse Pseudomonas Species Engage in Beneficial and Suppressive Interactions with the Kiwifruit Pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae Across Actinidia Germplasm,” by Haileigh R. Patterson et al. Learn more: doi.org/10.1094/PBIOMES-08-25-0071-R #microbiome #Pseudomonas
Fig. 7.
Results of real-time qPCR analysis of the virulence of germplasm isolates in competition with Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) on Actinidia arguta at 7 days postinoculation (dpi). Plantlets were flooded with 106 CFU/ml of each bacterial isolate. Bacterial growth was quantified by real-time qPCR using isolate-specific primers and normalizing the cycle threshold (Ct) to a plant housekeeping gene, EF1α, to get a ΔCt value.

Delighted to see this published in ISMEJ at the end of 2025!! Building on our previous work with the Psa-kiwifruit pathosystem, we competed Psa effector knockout strains against one another, across hosts, to more sensitively identify effector requirements. 🥝🌿 academic.oup.com/ismej/articl...

Individually redundant effectors are collectively required for bacterial pathogen virulence
Abstract. Host specificity of a plant pathogen is defined by its effector complement. However, it remains unclear whether the full complement is required f

To wrap up…! Why keep an effector the plant can recognize? Our postdoc Liz Florez shows Z. tritici’s effector AvrStb6 shapes the wheat microbiome, esp. Pseudomonas spp., in susceptible cultivars. A hidden microbial modulation role beyond host recognition? 🗓️ Poster P-166 🔗 doi.org/10.5281/zeno...

Extremely honoured to be a #2025ISMPMI travel awardee this year, and to be able to present the results of my masters degree all the way from NZ! Come and see me at P-319 to learn about the bacterial microbiome of Actinidia (kiwifruit).
