I was kind of thinking of doing a TikTok or something to reflect this. I am so tired of saying the same awful thing about cybersecurity on here hundreds of time, I'm not trying to be a gatekeeper or ahole.

I mentor young people for free. I want them to love IT and cybersecurity.

There. Are. No. Jobs. I'm soeffingtired. Cyber is full. There are no jobs.

The market has crashed. You will not get a job from a bootcamp. You will not get a career from WGU unless you did insane self study before hand. You will not get a job with a Security+ or CEH. HackTheBox and TryHackMe mean less than nothing to HR.

You had better have a Bachelors in CS from a credible school or similar. You had better have your Sec+ and CySA or OSCP. You had better be networking, doing projects, and getting top scores in CTFs. You had better have at least 2 years working in full time IT on your resume. You're competing with people with 4+ who have been laid off.

I am ready to throw fists at schools and influencers selling it otherwise. You have to fight to survive in this field these days and almost all of us have taken massive pay hits. It's not due to some magic AI. It's a rush on the field with glowing sales pitches, and a terrible global market.

Don't get into cybersecurity, or IT in general frankly, unless you have a box of torn apart computer parts on your shelf and a folder of projects on disk before even considering it. You will have to hustle. You'll get treated like crap and paid like crap. Your life will be old grey hairs like me telling you about how we got a job at a bar and you'll be finishing your 3rd 10.000 dollar cert. I can't fix that. Do it only if you love this stuff enough to deal with the unbearable market and all the shit you'll deal with for months looking for a low paid job. I see mentees in tears every single week and I am at the end of my rope.

Even the man stubbornly fights the man in Australia This is the KFC reaction to a postal worker getting fired after an unauthorised KFC break (other stuff too, but everyone likes a good tale)
OFFICIAL BRAND STATEMENT
Unfortunately, not all scheduled work breaks line-up perfectly with a KFC craving.
While we don't set the schedules, we do know how chicken obsessed our fans can be and that the call for 11 herbs and spices can strike at any time of the day.
To ensure future visits by postal workers are strictly 'official business,'
KFC is immediately posting a bunch of very urgent postcards addressed to...ourselves.
These will be arriving to select local KFC restaurants across the country soon.
The good news for posties - we need you to deliver this essential mail right inside the restaurant. When you do, simply hand the postcard over the counter to a friendly team member, and it is redeemable for a free meal.
Consider it postage paid in chicken.
Kind regards,
KFC

I'm in Singapore, and somehow I accidentally booked myself a tiny Disney princess hotel room that I can barely move around in without bonking my shins. It is tremendously goofy and fun but I have also been on 70 hours of flights so I'm very tired

This is kind of a silly take. Niantic are absolutely opportunists, who certainly didn't see AI coming when Pokémon Go or Ingress premiered. What they've always been interested in is being a *source of user geolocation data* which they can monetise. First way was lucrative Pokémon IP. Now it's AI.

Reddit:

" It's a weird one and more an amusement than annoyance, but when I moved here I asked what food I should try that was uniquely Australian and every Australian I talked to told me there was absolutely no "Australian food".

Yet, I am constantly bombarded with weird (but sometimes quite delicious) Australian food and more often extremely unique *takes on international food*, from HSPs to uncut sushi rolls with little squishy soy sauce fish, to lemon lime bitters, to Bunnings sausages on a slice of bread rather than a roll, to pizzas with bloody whole in shell clams and prawns on them, to fairy bread, to scrolls with vegemite and cheese in them, to whatever is going on with Guzman and Gomez and Mexican chips, to boozy ginger beer on tap.

You have a cuisine. It's mostly adopted from other cultures and stitched together, and mostly made to eat while 3 beers in, but you definitely have a cuisine. "

This photo of Brian McGinnis is going to be in museums and history books if we aren't wiped out in nuclear fire.
A Marine Corps veteran suffered a broken arm as he was dragged out of a hearing in the US Capitol by police and a senator.

Brian McGinnis called out during a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing in protest of the US attack on Iran.

He was dragged out of the room and a sitting senator broke his arm in the process.

Oh no. I was just mostly joking. This is kinda depressing given how important the Great Lakes are for freshwater.
Search result: “Melbourne tap water often tastes better than Chicago's due to its source from protected, pristine mountain forests in the Yarra Ranges, requiring minimal treatment. Conversely, Chicago draws water from Lake Michigan, necessitating higher chlorine levels for disinfection. Melbourne's water is also naturally filtered by soil and stored in reservoirs for up to five years, improving taste.”

I can't decide whether the worst medical incident I had to deal with as a Sergeant in the military with trainees was the 19 year old who shocked his friend with a camera flash capacitor or the 20 year old who tried to sterilize himself with a radar dish so no, these seem unfortunately plausible.

Am I safe to bring devices to defcon?
So I have a friend who will be going (I'm not sure when it is) and they invited me to go for free. But my question is, is it safe for me to bring devices with personal info? I've heard other people say to not bring anything that could possibly be hacked. Sorry if this is a stupid question

No, it's way too hot in Vegas in August. You run the risk of your devices overheating and lithium ion batteries exploding. Bring nothing but lots of water and sunscreen.

The reason the good faith seniors on here are posting that the junior / mid level market is bad (it is) is because we have watched it crash in real time and a lotta of us are dealing with serious fallout as both hiring managers or mentors.
It's genuinely a good faith warning. It's not like, "don't get into the field we love". It's just that for a really long time you could get into cybersecurity with no degree and no IT experience because the demand was so high. And schools, influencers, and parents still play it off that it's like that. That people can work full time remote and make 80k entry salary.
It's not. It hasn't been for a couple years. We've been hit by "professionalizing" and oversaturation of graduates. Can you still get in with a sec+, a kali box and a dream? Maybe, if you really meet the right people and get lucky.
Pragmatically though, that won't be the case for 99.9% of young people now, and if we care at all we need to counter the "everything is rosy" message people are using to sell boot camps. We are getting hundreds of cybersecurity grads and laid off professionals with work rights applying for positions.
How can organizations even take the time to look beyond that at hundreds more juniors with no degree, criminal convictions, a GED, needing a' v sponsor, etc?You really need to take it seriously and make yourself a top candidate. And these days to be competitive you typically need a bachelors, certs, and some hands on IT work experience. You need a very good professional network.
That's not true of every case. People will get lucky.
Or they'll have a security clearance or live in the right remote place for an in person only job. It happens.
Not often. The best thing we can do is try to enforce that they need to work seriously hard and have solid professional credentials.
TLDR we aren't all assholes; some of us are trying to save 20yos from falling for Uncle Bob putting them in a bootcamp to make an easy six figures.
