Given that another userland ROP has been posted to Twitter recently, here's a reminder that while it is real, it is not useful for end users in terms of running useful homebrew. twitter.com/i/status/207...

Reminder that real Switch 2 homebrew may not happen anytime soon, if ever. If anything legitimate does appear, you will hear about it from reputable sources and not a random Twitter user.

The reason you might see a Switch 2 with "custom firmware" is due to images and videos being displayed in the Album. It is possible to insert custom content by signing images and videos so the OS accepts them.

There's been a few claims of Switch 2 hacks and custom firmware lately. Most recent is an alleged "nand explorer", which is currently impossible. The UFS storage is encrypted, so direct access won't work without the keys, and there is still no software exploits to access the storage or get the keys.

The Switch 19.0.2 update you might see online is only for units released in China. Unlike all other regions, Chinese Switch units are region-locked and have their own firmware. The online services for them will shut down later this year. #NintendoSwitch www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/11...

A new video is out now, covering one of Nintendo's most dangerous oversights; a remote code execution exploit within Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Special thanks to @pretendo.network for their help with this video! Hope you find it interesting! 🧱

Yes, and repairs for Old 2DS and New 2DS XL are still ongoing. Also worth mentioning other regions might do it differently: Nintendo of Japan no longer repairs any models.

Happy ten-year anniversary to ironhax, one of the first widely available homebrew exploits for the Nintendo 3DS!

Screenshot of a post on Twitter a.k.a. X by smealum.

The tweet reads: "Everyone interested in 3DS homebrew should get IRONFALL from the shop for free! tell all your friends, please retweet!"

A picture of the Nintendo eShop page for IRONFALL Invasion is displayed.

No idea how it works in terms of codecs or whatever but they did not lock down the ability to play videos.

If there is ever genuine Switch 2 homebrew, you'll hear it from trusted scene members or news websites, not some random TikTok user.

060

Hacks.Guide @hacks.guide · 19/06/2025

Be careful with trusting videos that show homebrew allegedly running on Switch 2. It is very easy to play a video through the browser. (If you're wondering how to get a video in a browser, it's the same method as Switch 1, using a custom captive portal.)

Hacks.Guide @hacks.guide · 08/06/2025

(Notice how Switch 1 has no methods to hack using games, it's modchips or it's RCM on early units.)

Hacks.Guide @hacks.guide · 08/06/2025

Let's be clear about something, the Nintendo Switch 2 was NOT hacked on day one. That video by David Buchanan is a Switch 1 game exploit transferred over to Switch 2, which is very limited due to sandboxing. It is not useful for hacking the console. #Switch2 #NintendoSwitch2
