This is all part of that 'booming demand' for Super Idiocy (formerly known as artificial idiocy). So glad RAM and storage prices are 4x of last year so that we can get scammed even better even as the Internet dies in agony. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Tp...

It's officially pumpkin season, which happens to be a special treat for our ambassador wolves this time of year! 🎃🐺 Although wolves are classified as carnivores, they can sometimes have an omnivorous diet. Along with meat and eggs, wolves may also enjoy fruits like pumpkins. #wolffact

Would be funny if they decided to take some potshots using FP-9 at this point just to dial in that CEP and speed up 'final development' :)

A cosy illustration of a fluffy black cat stretched out asleep on a wooden wall shelf, beside three books and a trailing potted plant. The background is a softly textured blend of muted green and warm golden tones. White handwritten text above reads: “It’s nice to leave a little room in the day for nothing in particular.”

It's kinda crazy how we went from 'yup, removed that ball, all fixed now' with the move to optical mice, yet somehow that little spinning mechanical detail got ignored. *laughs in ballsy trackball for double the cleaning fun*

Sounds normal to a malignant narcissist, probably. In their mind people praising them is the normal state of the world, anything else is abnormal. Ergo justifying these name changes and monuments, helped by the gaggles of sycophants happily bobbing along.

Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yeah, that's my understanding too. Just the little niggle that the current imbalance on the GPU side can start after said PSU-side connector starts melting. Cause-and-effect conundrum, etc. Some PSUs now monitor per-wire too for those shite connectors, but yeah. Easier to use an adapter.
010
Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Best to use a multiple PCIe 8-pins to melty connector adapter. Those seem to be safe-ish. Worst case you lose the connector and not the PSU.

Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I have seen the native 12VHPWR connector on the PSU begin to melt first, followed by the one on the GPU side as the number of active conductors dropped. Theoretically Wireview Pro II will protect against that, but not sure that'll be before the connector melts into the PSU...

Indeed. For some reason USB-C with USB-PD has created a situation that's somehow worse than that of using barrel jack connectors. There they labelled the heck out of things and everything still made some sense...

Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
From what I have seen those things are pretty much the only protection for those faulty 12VHPWR connectors. Adding temperature sensors to just the GPU side is dumb and too slow. Need to measure the currents on this 1.1x safety margin design directly for any level of safely...

Funny thing about those e-marked cables is that they're kinda mandatory for USB-PD, as otherwise nobody knows whether you can safely send 48V at 5A or so down a dinky little cable that can barely handle 12V at 1A. USB-PD is just another terrible idea...
000
Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
That's why they introduced those e-markers for USB-C to -C cables, to theoretically encode those details in a little chip inside said cable. I got something that can read it out now, but most cables aren't e-marked, so... YOLO, I guess? *whips out the permanent marker & label printer*

Hot take: USB-C cables and jacks should feature mandatory labelling of WTAF they are capable of. Getting so sick of keeping track of this myself and having to test & label random USB-C to USB-C cables. USB 3 with lovely USB-A & USB-B ought to be enough for anyone anyway. USB-A to -C too, maybe.

Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yeah, that latter point is effectively the main difference. There's a point to be made that especially with 'for profit' US prisons having such a large prisoner population, it's essentially how cattle slavery remains legal. An inhumane approach to capital punishment is then just par for the course.

Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
When studies have also made clear that the whole 'deterrence' effect is basically zero, and we're not doing public executions any more anyway, then it's just some ghouls watching a person die after decades of torture at the hands of a dysfunctional justice system.

Maya Posch @hackkitten.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
When you kill someone after decades of imprisonment that just feels wrong. I don't even see how that provides more 'closure' than a life sentence or X years of prison. Maybe I'm too European, but this whole capital punishment bloodlust makes zero sense to me.

In TNG they used it on occasion for a fancy Holodeck scene where they reconstructed a scene or such, but even that was very awkward, with massive shortcuts taken. You wouldn't 3D model by telling the computer what to do, you'd use the bleedin' CAD package with keyboard & mouse.

The smallest bat in North America is the canyon bat (Parastrellus hesperus), also called the western pipistrelle or American parastrelle. They weigh about 3–6 grams, the weight of a US penny, sheet of paper, or teaspoon of sugar. In flight, they're sometimes confused for moths or butterflies.
A tiny smoke-grey furry bat with darker face, ears and wings. The big story is the tiny size. The entire bat fits on a portion of a human's thumb, a tee-weeny tiny little guy.

This is a viral photo that's circulated for years, but I found it on r/BatFacts posted by u/Pardusco.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, holding a red ball labeled "A SILLY MEME".
The second panel shows Sarah taking the ball and going through a door labeled "GROUP CHAT".
The third panel shows a group of women sitting together and consoling one woman in the center. The woman in the center is saying "...And that's how it happened. It's been the worst day of my life."
The fourth panel shows Sarah standing in the doorway behind them awkwardly holding the red ball.

Yeah, Adam of Mythbuster fame was always the one who pioneered getting injured in highly educational ways. This one involved gasoline vapours in an closed-off space, I believe. But as he also said: 'it's not screwing around if you write it down.' In that case it's science :)

There's a certain level of design tolerance in those vertical stabilisers, but I don't think that 'exceeding Mach 1' was within that range. Was slightly shocking to see that the main vertical stabiliser was ripped off.

Panel 1. Cepper, a Gothic sorceress, walks toward the "Faculty of Fire Magic" (the label is framed on the door). Beyond the door, we see scholars writing grimoires with AI parrots nearby. Signs on the faculty wall read: "Fireballs must be kept at a safe academic distance." and "The Faculty is NOT responsible for burnt eyebrows."
> Cepper: "The Ring of Fire spell... I need it."
> Cepper: "So let's ask someone who knows it, the good old human way."Panel 2. Cepper is now inside the faculty. She adopts a friendly pose and politely approaches a sorceress scholar halfing fox, red hair, she looks visibly bored or emotionally exhausted. Her AI Parrot writes in a grimoire for her; she barely glances at it.
> Cepper: "Hey, would you happen to know how to cast a Ring of Fire spell? " Panel 3. The scholar doesn't bother responding herself: she simply asks her AI Parrot.
> Scholar: "Avian Intelligence, tell me how to cast a Ring of Fire spell."
> AI Parrot: "Absolutely! PyroCircus."
* Inserted panel, she repeats the Parrot's words word-for-word while Cepper barely contains her frustration in the background.
> Scholar: "Absolutely. PyroCircus."Panel 4. Cepper, is intrigued but asks seriously while the scholar maintains her dead-inside expression.
> Cepper: "Wait, you're simply just an AI meat proxy now, aren't you?"
> Scholar: "Avian Intelligence, tell me how to reply to that."

A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Blue is calmly sitting on his computer when he is startled by noises that sound somewhere between coughing and choking. Alarmed, he rushes to investigate.
Blue: Green? Are you okay?

Blue finds Green on his back on the floor, evidently shaken up but otherwise unharmed.
Green: I somehow swallowed spittle wrong.
