Peter and I sat down the last day of #goatmire and recorded the latest episode in person, covering the latest #ElixirLang news and conference recap. One of our best episodes yet, if I do say so myself 😄 Available on all the podcast apps, soon to be uploaded to YouTube as well!

Fun project!! Just a couple ESP32s 😄 Let me know if you wanna chat about integrating mesh before (or during) the conf. It would be super cool!!

Mesh would be super cool tbh! It’s something I haven’t had the time to actually look into yet. We’re using ESP32-S3 if you have some and wanna see what you can come up with 😄 Fun fact, the lovely @j2h.bsky.social just added AtomVM support to Nerves Hub so we have OTA firmware update capability!

You won’t be able to move the physical keys (they are one big silicone sheet) but you can definitely remap them in software 😆

Bummer! The talks will be recorded, but seems like there are some elements (like these badges) that can only be properly experienced in person

It's such a well-designed keeb!! And easy to integrate into your own designs We have a chat app to be used during the conference, but the keyboard also opens a ton of options as inputs for ie, custom games, shortcuts/actions, etc. I'm looking forward to see what people come up with :D

This was one of my favorite talks of the conf. I especially appreciated your suggestion of incremental iterations to add AI system that complements your team, not replace it. Will be giving this approach a try in the post-Goatmire weeks :)

Nerves Starter Kit is still in development. It’s been slightly set back due to a really busy summer & one of the main chips on the board being discontinued (redesign required) I have already ordered the whole first batch of e-ink displays, so it’s getting close. Goal is public release by Oct/Nov 💜

A photo of the Goatmire 2026 logo circuit board. The logo is white against a classic electronics green background. There are some interesting traces and copper features visible, but nothing distinct. Could this be… an early peek? At the Goatmire 2026 name badge? A delightful addition to the goodie bag of the best Elixir conference / week long festival ever to grace the western shores of Sweden, in the cute costal town of Varberg?

No, that couldn’t be it. Unless…?

Now that you mention it, I don’t think I’ve felt that flow state as much this year. I think that’s likely because my attention is constantly divided between managing one or more agents and working on something else. It is exhausting, constantly context switching

@peterullrich.com it just occurred to me that from the title it might sound like we’re fitness buffs and we exclusively talk about our diets/workouts and how to get enough macros to gain muscle… 🤔😂 I can assure everyone that we prefer to talk about the #ElixirLang macros instead 😄

I'm considering setting up OpenBao as a container within Dokploy. I would think it's not a great practice since it's on the same machine... but it's temptingly low-effort and it has to be slightly better than Dokploy plain text environment variables, right?

Gus Workman @gworkman.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
That being said - I love the fact that I have the option of taking a 600km journey via public transport to get way up in the mountains. Backpack hut-to-hut for a couple days, ending in a different town. And then 600km public transport back. No car required.

Though credit where credit is due, DB did try to maintain their reputation. Our casual 30 min lunch layover was reduced to just a 2 min sprint. Probably would have missed the connection if it weren’t for the fact that the platforms were pretty close to each other

Gus Workman @gworkman.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
For a round trip journey including 4 buses and 11 trains and an average scheduled layover time of about 15 mins (max 30m, min 4m). I am absolutely SHOCKED that we didn’t miss a single connection. Even despite the fact that 8 of those connections were on Deutsche Bahn 😅

Gus Workman @gworkman.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
This new version looks exciting! I was looking for secrets management when I set it up, it felt wrong to put secrets in plain text in the environment variables. Glad that’s a feature now! Just need to set up a secrets provider

Hey! Thanks for your blog post where you suggested Dokploy as a deployment option. I hadn’t heard of it before then and since ~2 weeks ago it’s worked really well. That said, I don’t have enough experience for a comparison of features older than that. But I did see they released v0.30.0 last week
