Feels like every tool I’ve picked up needed fixing before I could work with it … grrr .. yesterday got the tackle saw motor back together with a new bearing. I never knew electric motors were so simple inside! #fixit

Quick overnight trip to Kirtle Burn hut in the #PisaRange in #Cardrona valley on the weekend. So lucky to have that access to a non threatening part of the high country, which is rare in Aotearoa. Still some great skiing to be had :)

After a too long hiatus I have returned to building a hut/cabin I’ve been planning for ages. It’s 6x3m and has some interesting structure I hope will optimise insulation and also use a bunch of ply scrap a local cnc cup shop has.

A year after starting it, and inspired by the recent #lowtechmagazine article, I moved the balance point and added a handle and boom! It’s a goer. Garden barrow ftw. Just moved a week’s worth of firewood easy as.

This weekend I will ride my 20 year old Ti mtb race bike rebuilt as a gravel machine. Super excited, repurposed 9 spd Durace sti levers, bought locally used beautiful carbon wheels, hydraulic/cable brakes and adaptors from Aliexpress #BikeTooter #Bikes

Back to almost usable, rust fixed and some great high density EVA foam found at the community workshop added on the floor, hopefully warmer and quieter now.

After checking, double checking and triple checking made some barrier foam strips to stop the silicone going in too deep and put the battery case back together then back into the chassis. Deleted the old error codes the car has from the previous battery and …. Drove to town!!

Here’s the new battery units in place and bolted down, wiring mostly done just didn’t have a torque wrench to finish it off.

Put on our big pants (and 1000v gloves) and took the old battery packs out today. Once we started not hard at all and not very scary (350v DC will kill). Now prepping the case lip for resealing. Next session will be putting the new battery packs in. Super fun 🤩 #Vivnes #NissanLeaf #Recycle #DIY

Good progress today, the pallet jack worked well and the #ev #nissanleaf battery is out. We cut the seal and took the lid off and then watched a bunch of videos on how to safely take out the cell packs (going to do that tomorrow)

Here is the frame painted and on a couple of old trampoline frames so we can build the floor with access from top and bottom. Planning to then lower it into blocks to add the portals.
