Our polling found that people don't believe elected officials can accomplish lowering prices without taking on the power of the wealthy & large corporations. So, call it what you want but voters know our economy needs major, structural changes. @alexsjacquez.bsky.social for @scrippsnews.bsky.social

People are fed up with the economy right now and they want major action taken. But neither political party is stepping up. Our exclusive polling found voters believe both parties are beholden to donors and special interests – not working families like them.

Our exclusive polling shows the majority of voters want politicians to tackle high prices directly. @mikiesherrill.bsky.social showed how it can be done by freezing utility rates at a time of soaring costs for working families. @alexsjacquez.bsky.social w/ the details on @scrippsnews.bsky.social.

"What people want to see is fairness." Companies and billionaires have been dodging their taxes, while working families pay their fair share. Our @alexsjacquez.bsky.social breaks down how rigged our current system is for @scrippsnews.bsky.social.

No one earns $1 billion. As @alexsjacquez.bsky.social notes for @scrippsnews.bsky.social: "Elon Musk's companies would not exist without the federal government, without taxpayer dollars, providing loans, grants, & government contracts to able to scale the rocket launches & electric vehicles."

The candidates who will win in 2026 aren't the ones with the longest policy lists. They're the ones who say plainly: the economy is broken, here's who did it, and here's how we're going to fight back. That's the winning agenda. 🔗: groundworkaction.org/research/wha...

Dems do face a serious credibility gap. 71% of voters believe Dems talk about the working class but don’t follow through. 67% worry Dems are too cozy with corporate donors to fight for working people. A majority say Dems look out for billionaires more than people like them.

As we start to talk about *why* and *who* broke the economy, we can’t forget about how people feel about Big Tech and AI. 59% of voters say Big Tech and AI companies have more of a negative than positive impact on the middle class.

In fact, the most popular economic proposal we tested was for leaders to prosecute corporate fraud, wage theft, and other crimes that companies and their executives commit. 94% of ALL voters approve of this policy.

In order to achieve this reality, voters want their leaders to step in and cap runaway prices on groceries, rent, and utilities, AND go after the corporations that collude to fix prices instead of competing fairly.

Some consultants worry that attacking billionaires turns off voters who "aspire to be rich.” Our polling says that fear is overblown. 81% say the primary goal of the economy should be ensuring people can lead a decent life, like being able to pay bills and save for retirement.

Here's the trap Dems keep falling into: announcing a list of affordability proposals without explaining why prices are high to begin with. Voters aren't buying it. 57% say you can't meaningfully lower costs without taking on the corporations and billionaires keeping prices high.

Democrats – and even gettable former Democrats – share a core belief: our economy is unfairly rigged in favor of the wealthy and corporations and want major changes to ensure our economy works for everyone.

🚨NEW polling from us & @hartresearch.bsky.social has a clear and pointed message for every candidate running in 2026: Talking about affordability isn’t enough. Voters want their leaders to name who broke the economy and actually fight to fix it. Here’s what the data says. 🧵
