Funny thing, learned English in school. Had to do a test, give synonyms for words. Got them all wrong according to textbook, but still right. Just different ones. Had learned English already by reading a lot and watching brit comedy. Used to speak speak 19th century Wodehouse English)))

Dutch, mother tongue. English fairly well, German, passable, French passive, can understand a lot, seldom used it, so no active vocabulary, a few hundred words of russian, no grammar.

In Finland, at a bar, I say "kossu", Finnish endearment for Koskenkorva vodka. No need to say please in Finland. After being served, kiitos, thanks. And, even those two words, they appreciate as an effort.

Dutch should be easier. No second German vowel change, words are slightly more similar to English. ( to eat, eten vs essen, to live, leven vs leben) and no case system, replaced by prepositions like in English. Frisian is easiest. Bûter, brea, en griene tsiis is goed Ingelsk en goed Frysk.
