4/4 Not because he abandoned his Conservative values, but because he realized compassion, dignity and keeping people alive were never at odds with them. He didn't just change his opinion. He became an advocate for the very people he'd once dismissed.

3/4 He met the nurses, saw the care, the detox upstairs, and the connections to recovery. He walked in believing these places enabled addiction, he walked out understanding they save lives. Today, he's one of their biggest supporters.

2/4 I replied, “That's a dumb comment to make while holding your grandson. He might not be alive if one hadn't saved my life and connected me to recovery.” You should have seen his face when I said that. 😳 “Whoops. I didn't think that through.” So I arranged a tour.

More police doesn't reduce addiction. More police doesn't reduce mental illness. More police doesn't reduce homelessness. More police doesn't reduce poverty. More housing, more healthcare, more treatment, more outreach, more resources & more support does. That's how you build healthier communities

“In a lot of the cases, overdose happens when people are alone. There’s no one there to help, so that’s the idea behind our patch,” a researcher said.

You asked for age. Yes the percentage of people on safer supply hydromorphone was very low. Unfortunately, it also didn't help a lot of people.

I could like this a million times... A pizza shop owner sees a homeless woman digging through his garbage for food. He brings her inside, heats up a slice and gives her water. Then he puts up a sign: If you’re homeless and hungry, come in. I’ll feed you. No judgment, just humanity at its finest. ❤️

Police can’t eliminate organized crime, drug trafficking, or the illegal drug supply, yet nobody says policing “doesn’t work.” Someone uses drugs near a harm reduction service and suddenly harm reduction caused the entire crisis. That double standard is absurd. Smh 🙄

Guy Felicella @guyfelicella.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
2/2 The people tasked with stopping organized crime can’t stop the supply, while the health workers dealing with the consequences are accused of causing the problem. Harm reduction didn’t create the toxic drug supply, it’s trying to keep people alive despite it.

1/2) Do you know what I find absurd? Police have massive budgets, yet gangs still operate, organized crime still profits, and deadly unregulated drugs still flood Vancouver’s streets. Then somehow, harm reduction services get blamed for the drug crisis. Think about that.

Prison. That’s what we call locking people inside a correctional centre. They're proposing putting people with addiction and mental health challenges in an actual correctional centre and calling it “mandatory care.” That's not treatment, it's prison with a rebrand. globalnews.ca/news/1204859...

This is how we move forward. Harm reduction keeps people alive. Housing creates stability. Recovery creates possibility. But none of it works in isolation. We need pathways that connect people to all three. Really appreciated this conversation and the willingness to listen.

You don't solve an encampment by clearing it, you solve it by giving people somewhere to go. Housing, support and stability. Otherwise, you're not ending homelessness, you're just moving it to another street. If you want fewer tents, fund more homes. www.timescolonist.com/opinion/comm...
