This week Danish police put on a show of farce at CPH airport for when Athens-originating Aegean arrived. The police pulled over a bunch of non-Scandinavian guys aged c. 16-40 years and questioned them separately for a few minutes each before letting them go. This is CPH’s fall school break week.

Labour as a Jekyll & Hyde where its own party stalwarts are split about who is Jekyll and who is Hyde amongst themselves — and that’s all while the party bigwigs seek to play like Diet Conservatives to boost the economy and drive up party donations regardless of who is harmed. Party identity crisis.

An akin situation has come up in the context of US Senate candidate El-Sayed who has an MD. He can be called a doctor because of the MD. But having a JD isn’t sufficient to call yourself a lawyer. And don’t we still have some lawyers who don’t have JDs but cleared the NY bar and practice(d) law?

Sure, but the differences in economic performance can’t even be largely attributed to differences in taxation policy.

You already know my response to this kind of line you cart out whenever this topic comes up involves mentioning economies of scale. Also, a very large, more diverse pool of “the covered” is beneficial for the party providing the benefits coverage and responsible for paying out on claims.

That is like saying corporations don’t pay for supplies. But corporations are paying, just some pay a lot more while others pay very little.

Being taxed like a European in some parts comes with a much lower tax burden for the very wealthy than being a comparably wealthy American taxed like an American in Florida or Texas (or anywhere for that matter). 9 bucks a gallon matters less when vehicle drives on solar energy-powered batteries.

The opt-out idea had been around before the 1990s, but the fall of 1987 gave us a bit of a break from those types wanting to break Social Security.

And no part of DHS — nor any part of the US Government — has any database available that is inclusive of all US citizens, and thus even flagged “non-citizens” may turn out to be US citizens by birth. And of the non-US-citizens who are flagged, most all of them are unlikely to have voted illegally.

Will we even get a SNL skit with a Katie Zacharia character? Sean Spicer got lampooned as an SNL caricature. Scaramucci got lampooned on it too, but not sure if it was in Scaramucci’s role of press secretary or just as a former press secretary, commentator, etc,

Well-off Americans collecting Social Security payments is socially beneficial and politically useful in sustaining support for Social Security. [It also helps well-off, greedy old men with getting married/remarried.]

The lockout systems can generate their own bad threat vector for authorized school kids and authorized school personnel in the event there is an armed gunman or two with both the intent and knowledge to massacre a bunch of kids at various points during a typical day when kids go to and from school.

American Airlines repeatedly gives up what it wants to be, and so it ends up being more of a has-been or a poor copycat who comes late to the game and loses because of that.

The Daily Mail doesn’t have much of a print subscription base in the US, so it’s mostly online readers. The Daily Mail website in the US feeds US IP addresses different content than in the UK via dailymail.com/ushome/index.html , but it’s still the Daily Mail tabloid.

Too bad that Ukraine and the other Europeans don’t pursue Musk as a national/international security threat who is sabotaging public security and safety in Europe. Musk needs to face the full force of the law for endangering public security and safety.

More armed guards at US houses of worship will likely make for less polite outcomes, as it’s just a matter of time until an armed house of worship shoots at and injures or kills an unarmed person because an armed guard freaked out for a bad reason. ….. but in a country full of guns ….

When a Sikh temple in Wisconsin got attacked by a gunman who thought Sikhs were Muslims, mosques in the state had to security up beyond what they started to do even years earlier. [Mosques across America are heavy on desi diasporas.]

Nor is this kind of 4 weeks of “work” going to work well when it takes time to even get a new worker up to speed to do work without either having to be closely supervised or accepting risk of poor work and goofing around and other problems.

Consolidated Papers’ plants kept changing hands and still couldn’t financially work out even with ownership change after ownership change. I always found Rapids sort of strange with its sprawl for a town about its size in a rural part of the state despite little to no population growth.

The social demands of being a US ambassador don’t require what she wanted. We have had a lot of US ambassadors who have gotten by just fine on their USG-provided income. She just happens to be greedy and crooked, as is so typical of people in the Trump crime worlds of business and politics.

She didn’t meet the staying requirements of the Trump crime family version of “Go big, or go home” — but don’t publicly upstage the Big Boss/Mafia Don, especially not as a woman. …. and so she is going home and losing her diplomatic passport. Maybe she will have tax troubles too?

And yet another example of why any company with Musk as a shareholder with a controlling interest is a bad government contractor and a threat to government customers (including US Govt customers) and should be excluded from consideration as an extreme national security risk.

I query some of these programs on subjects about which I am well-informed, extensively experienced & have connections to primary sources (on top of my readings) and already know the correct answers. Too often the programs’ responses are detrimental “answers”/“advice”.

Long overdue. The DHS leviathan should never have been created, and its constituent parts (before post-9/11 craziness) were better functioning and more accountable than they became after DHS’s creation.

I am enjoying my IHG Diamond status between the complimentary breakfast for 2 — although they occasionally increase it to all guests in rooms under my name — and the upgrades to better rooms despite my cheap room rates. Do I get $800 of value out of it a year? Easily with 15 IHG room nights a year.

Disappointed with Ossoff on this, but I get it that some family people with young kids don’t want to land themselves & family into a gilded cage of sort. Also, we need every Democratic US Senator possible sooner than later to try to reset the country’s course and fix the damage done by Republicans.

Some would say that Republicans seem to be a lot like traumatized children, and yet the country has repeatedly elevated Republicans who play on the base anxieties of traumatized Republicans and others.

If the aggregate gift amount received from a nonresident non-US person donor who never expatriated from the US exceeds $100,000 during a taxable year, the gift must be reported but no US taxes are likely due on the gift. It would be a filing and reporting requirement but not taxed by the US.
000 0
GUWonder @guwonder.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Gifts which US citizens receive from non-US person donors are most commonly not considered taxable gifts to the gift recipient. If the $250k of gift money received to pay off the car loan was gifts from 25 non-US persons giving $10k each, the $250k is not US taxable income to the US gift recipient.
