And some people wonder why youth are not attending church. Direct language from a video shown last night in Texas. "On June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, 'I need a caretaker,' so God gave us Trump." I get trolling, blah, blah. I am sorry, this is just flat out wrong

Far too common. I see it as a donut. You have the ultra traditionalists and progressive parts of the Mennonite world holding to distrust of church and state marriage and wide sections of the "middle" being co-opted by at the very least "MAGA-Lite."

We do a service of dedication, but no water. Sometimes the parents ask to be anointed as a way to express their desire to follow Christ's lead in raising a child.

It is too big a net to put a phrase like that out there. Some don't, most do. Especially in acculturated Mennonite groups you will find LOTS of health providers of all kinds and deep commitment to following the science.

unfortunately, far too many Mennonite leaders in the US are buying into Christian Nationalism and have largely abandoned "allegiance to Christ alone" thinking. For that you have to go to the most traditionalist groups ("Plain") or the very progressive groups.

❤️‍🔥 Did you know? Inside the Civilian Public Service Program During World War II, the United States built a parallel army out of conscientious objectors. Many Quakers, Mennonites and other pacifist groups joined the CPS rather than the Army, fulfilling a range of nonviolent patriotic duties.

OK, this just makes me livid. I am removing the name and party, because IMHO, that doesn't matter. Anyone who feels this way needs to get out of public service NOW. "Affordability? ... I'm gonna get me some nice rib eyes... Maybe the 60% of Americans don't work as hard as I do."

Lots are, but originally, the biggest group of "PA Dutch" were Lutheran, German Reformed, Moravian, and others. Head to Berks County PA and there are lots of PA Dutch who have never been Amish or Mennonite.

They get a pass now, but were not always so fortunate. Look up how some were treated during the World Wars. Not saying race doesn't play into it (in fact, even plays a large role IMHO) but it hasn't always been hunky dory

Mennonites are all over re travel modes. I live in Lancaster and can find Mennonites in buggies, in black cars, in "normal" cars and everywhere in between. A few things everyone works on together. Relief work through Mennonite Central Committee and disaster response with Mennonite Disaster Service.

We listened and learned from tons of groups across the spectrum of people present there. Spent time with members of all three monotheistic groups, talked with leaders from right to left, spent 7 weeks doing a lot of listening, and very little talking.

Do you think stealing land, restricting movements, stealing water, restricting access sources of income, etc, etc, etc has anything to do with this? There is no condoning violence, but it doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Great to see a part of my heritage shared here. Just a note, This is from the "Russian Mennonite" tradition, descendants of Dutch and Prussian Mennonites who settled in what is now Ukraine in the late 1700s. Most Mennonites/Amish in this area are of Swiss-German heritage.

There is no unanimity on this. The culturally conservative groups have been doing some educational work on this with their young folks and the progressive MCUSA congregations have been doing some. The "middle groups" are doing precious little, IMHO.

While it isn't quite 100% true, it is close. Your comment on the modern American evangelical model is spot on. One interesting oddity is that if you want traditional 4 part singing, you need to go to either traditionalist churches or progressive ones, the middle is hollowed out by worship music.
