Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 16/06/2025It was briefly mentioned in one of the later episodes, I would have to go back to find where specifically as I can't remember the exact episode 000
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 12/06/2025My understanding is that he kept these for Chu Huaiming to use to try to gain clues on where the 癸玺 was. (I think it was mentioned only very briefly that this was their purpose). Very morbid. 110
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 02/03/2025That does look very good, I can see why they would be eyeing the food 😂 010
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 01/03/2025Is that really what it was translated into 😂 I had to ignore the subs after the first few lines because they were distracting, not just translation choices but also somehow timing was off 120

Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 25/02/2025Took my parents and they both enjoyed it, commenting on how Tsui Hark managed to simplify the storyline in order to make it easier to understand for an international audience. I enjoyed it even more the second time 😍 030
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 23/02/2025Another thing I loved about Legends of the Condor Heroes: The Gallants is the time given towards Huang Rong and Hua Zheng's relationship Tsui Hark: Huang Rong is like your modern strong female character. She should have another strong female character whom she can get along with. 11610
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025He really was! I imagine he must have had a lot of fun in the role 😂 130
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Tony Leung Ka-Fai is formidable as Ouyang Feng. I also really enjoyed how Hua Zheng gets portrayed. The romance storyline was mediocre 😂 I did enjoy seeing Zhuang Dafei as quick-witted Huang Rong. Overall, it was a fun action-packed film that I look forward to watching again. 😍 5130
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Adapting such an extensive story into a movie is an ambitious feat, and I think the pacing could have been better. The cinematography, acting, and martial arts fighting were highlights for me. Xiao Zhan did such a great job as Guo Jing, conveying his steadfast loyalty and virtues. 1110
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Tsui Hark also said that he wanted to make a modern-day wuxia movie, showcasing what wuxia could look like now. He wrote his characters from a modern perspective, comparing Guo Jing to an expat who has then moved back to his home country. 1100
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Guo Jing is often seen as a dim-witted character who is slow to learn, but loyal and sincere. Tsui Hark said that he doesn't see Guo Jing as dumb. After all he's able to master advanced techniques like the 18 Dragon Subduing Palms and the Nine Yin Manual through diligent effort 180
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Jin Yong had moved from Zhejiang, China to Hong Kong, at a time when many had made the move during the Chinese Civil War, prior to the Communist victory. HK was still under British rule. His story of maintaining roots with one's homeland is likely influenced by the political context of the time. 170
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025It is thus a climactic point for Guo Jing's character when he is faced with the decision of defending the Southern Song, his homeland where he has now formed so many connections, from the invading Mongols and Genghis Khan, a figure who had raised him like his son. 170
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025These masters include Hong Qi Gong, who teaches Guo Jing the 18 Dragon Subduing Palms (at the behest of Huang Rong, who bribes HQG through her culinary skills.) Through these various encounters, he learns about his father, he learns the way of the xia, and the values of loyalty and righteousness. 170
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Due to a vow that was made many years ago, Guo Jing travels to the Central Plains of Southern Song at age 18. There he meets Huang Rong, along with many other martial arts masters, who take a liking to Guo Jing and pass down their techniques to him. 160
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Through other ties of fate he meets the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan (who come from the Central Plains of the Song), and they teach him wugong. His combat skills and loyalty win Genghis Khan's affection. Khan sees him as a son, and betroths his daughter, Hua Zheng, to Guo Jing. 160
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Li Ping, Guo Jing's mother, flees to the Mongolian Grasslands with her son. She raises Guo Jing to remember his origins, and to one day avenge the death of his father. Guo Jing grows up on the Grasslands, where he becomes close with one of Genghis Khan's sons, Tolui, and learns archery from Jebe. 170
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Guo Jing is a child of the Song dynasty, born after the Jin have invaded Northern Song, which displaced his father to Southern Song. Shortly after Guo Jing was born, his father is killed, while trying to defend his wife and son, by corrupt Southern Song officers colluding with the Jins in a raid. 170
Linda @guangdian.bsky.social · 22/02/2025Summarizing my thoughts on Legends of the Condor Heroes: The Gallants The way I see it, Tsui Hark made this assuming that the viewer is already familiar with the characters' origin stories and already has some emotional attachment to them. The movie focuses on ch 34-40, skipping a lot of backstory⤵️ 22614
